How long can my fiance actually have her visa before using it? I know she has until Sept. 12th to go get the visa, and I know once she comes here with it, we have 90 days to get our stuff done, but I have no idea how long she can hold onto it before using it. A month, 3 months, none? Help! Thanks!

Once issued, the visa is valid for six months. It can only be used to enter the US one time.

Yes six months to enter the states once it is issued. Once you enter the states you then have 90 days to get married. Good Luck and enjoy the journey the waiting is over for now.

Yes, after the visa is issued you have 6 months to enter the US. The expiration date is printed on the Visa, make sure you look at it. If you are planning to wait until later to use the visa you don't want to miss the expiration date by a few days (my hubby's visa was granted on June 28th and expired December 26th).

Once you have entered the US, you have 90 days to get married (this 90 days will match the expiration on the I-94 that will be attached to your passport when you enter the US).

Thanks a lot! I was never really clear on that part, and I'm probably one of the rare people that actually wants/needs to wait a little bit before she comes here because of my current situation. Thanks all.

It's not the most common scenario, but it does happen frequently. Sometimes you have to adjust schedules to make life work!

I'm in a similar situation, but I might want to postpone the interview. Based on my timeline, my fiancee could get her interview as early as November or December. If so, I'll probably ask to reschedule for late January or later. My fiancee's youngest daughter turns 18 in the middle of January, and we'd like to avoid having to deal with her ex for the quit claim letter.

I hope things work out well for both of you!

To chime in - always check each visa separately for the expiration date.

Sometimes the date can be less than 6 months.

Some medical conditions put them at 3 months, for example.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

It's not so rare, even though I admit I see people travel pretty much the day they receive their visas.

First, we managed to postpone our interview by an entire month, pretty much. My visa was issued on April 8th and I'm still here in Croatia, just about now getting ready to hop on a plane (in a couple weeks). There were many things that needed to be settled here, before my moving to the States.
