Whidbey I am sorry for your loss.

But, I have a problem in understanding why a child would not know when their parents were born, and I am sure an interviewing officer would have equal difficulty in understanding that. I have no wish to be argumentative, perhaps it is something as simple as a cultural difference, but I suspect it is running a red flag up the pole.

Thank you, I did not know them, I didn't meet my husband until years after they had passed. In Africa it's not unusual at all to not know birthdays. Many don't know their own birthdaysm, their names can even be different from what they are called and what is on their birth certificate, so getting matching documents is sometimes tricky. It makes this process.....interesting to say the least. The CO's are typically aware of the culture they are in so it's not that big of deal as it would be say for someone here in the US.

PS. familyguy - I don't know what your pic is in your signature but my internet filter does not like it - LOL!! Everytime I open a page I get a warning. :)

For a lot of MENA countries, the same applies. My husband's mother didn't know when she was born, they didn't have it documented, but they at least know the year. That is all we put on the I-130 form and that was ok. I am sure they see this often and won't see it as a problem.
