Hi,

I came here on an F1, and got an OPT extension, which gave me an EAD card that has an alien ID number.

I just got married to my US husband. I filed all the AOS and work permit, and on all those applications, I used the Alien ID number I had been assigned previously. I just got my biometrics taken, and, on advice of a fellow alien, looked at my biometrics appointment notice and my notice of action and the Alien ID number is completely different!!!!

The number on my notice of receipt is the same as the one on my biometrics notice, but it's completely different from my original F1 number. Do they reassign numbers when you are starting a new type of filing, or has there been some mix up? If the latter, does anyone know what I need to do?

Thanks, :help:

USCIS assigns a new A# for the AOS. The one you need for your AOS is the one on your Biometrics. There was no mistake on the part of USCIS. Good luck!

You are referring to the A#/Alien Registration number.

Usually a foreign national will only be assigned a single A# - but I've read of others in your same Visa/AOS situation where a new A# is assigned (something about the F1/OPT). This 'new' A# is what (I believe) you should use going forward - I've not seen/read what occurs to the now old number - presumably it is somehow 'retired' but keep a record of it handy just in case you need it in the future.
