Well if you are talking about forced honor killings...let the good people of that country rise up and get rid of the imposed laws of rogue dictators. Once again if he step in we become the occupying force of foreigners, imposing on intruding. Havent we learned in past 10 yrs or so these things. Imperialism is not the way. Especially when we got debt and economic welfare problems here. Case in point California welfare system si such a huge burden, governator S cant find it in the budget to pay police and teachers come mid month!. Also when we (America) help build economy and infrastructure in countries which we have invaded, the stone age people will also recognize the benefits and help and come around to a better way of life and living. Until then we are just running are troops and mouths in places in which we are not welcomed.

The Obama administration has moved to grant political asylum to foreign women who suffer severe physical or sexual abuse from which they are unable to escape because it is part of the culture of their own countries.

Private Pike, I hope you are paying attention to this...

but but but we're all the same right pike.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

How is granting asylum to someone imperialist?

Are we saying that now there are no more 'good' communist defectors for the US to house, asylum is moot? Extraodinary.

Well said. The US has more than enough problems of its own problems to deal with.

Do you even know what asylum is if that is 'well said'? I have my doubts. Asylum does not 'right' wrongs. Asylum grants sanctuary to those who have suffered human rights abuses. Oh but then, ethics is culturally flexible, it was prooved the other day  One wonders what kind of country some of you would like the US to be...

Asylum isn't designed to right any wrong in another country, it is to give people that have no other way out a chance to get away from abuse or repression. I for one have no problem granting asylum to people that are truly being oppressed or abused. On the other hand I have no use for those that seek to scam the system or to bypass it all together. Do it legally and within the rules? Welcome friend! Do it outside the law? GTFO!

It isn't but we were founded on giving relief to those that are oppressed. Allowing them to legally immigrate is our way of making the world a better place. Everything else is politics.

In rereading Madames' post, perhaps they are just talking about women that are already here and perhaps even illegally. I-751 permits assumingly a woman to stay if extreme hardships exist by returning her to her home country, would feel being stoned to death would be one of those. Perhaps this is being extended to illegals here as well and is not a worldwide situation.

Our women here wouldn't have any rights if they didn't form and fight for them, easy to say, but women in other parts of the world should do the same. How long would a government or even the entire country last, without women?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Sure we all would want to see people in these situations rescued, but this is not about an emotional impulse this has to be a clearly defined guide.

Now Gary how many people are their in the world who would qualify as being "abused or repressed"?

How many people are starving? How many children are growing up in countries where Orphanages are centers for abuse and exploitation, how many people are literal slaves across the world... some in the sex market some in domestic work many doing labor?

Hundreds of millions and you think the USA can be the escape hatch for them?

Get serious.

We can't use our immigration (or asylum) system as a life boat .... for a ship full of people.

Ironically, the very countries who we imagine would be most likely to have women in these condition are the same countries whose populations are exploding. We could never immigrate as fast as they populate.

I think we would be far better setting up a program where Womens abuse groups could choose and sponsor candidates for these type of visa's this way there is less likely to be abuse, more likely to benefit the lady and

the goal is much better served.

But lets not kid ourselves, we are only able to offer crumbs to an ocean of fish.
