Hope you stopped and made a copy of your certificate first, just in case the DOS loses it. Wife got hers back, but they lost my birth certificate, but that was only eight bucks and takes four days to get another one. Certificate requires dealing the USCIS, again, and that you want to avoid.

You bet I did and took a picture of it too, taking no risks with them.

But have you gotten an answer for the RFE? Don't let it set - "thinking" it's an error.

Remember they can still pull citizenship if they find a problem with your application, not likely, but take no chances.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Was this actually an e-mail sent to you, or a notification listed in your on-line status?

"NOW this morning july 25, I received an email from USCIS:

Application Type: N400 , APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION

Current Status: Request for Additional Evidence Sent

On July 23, 2009, we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information in this case N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the requested information. This case will be in suspense until we receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once we receive the requested evidence or information and make a decision on the case, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, call 1-800-375-5283 to update your address."

But then you said, they never sent you a written notice in the mail, and they never retracted your oath letter so if the USCIS did issue you your certificate, it would be their error they would have to admit to making yet another error too. DOS will check your certificate for authenticity, I know you have an uncomfortable feeling about all this, but feel with the USCIS, this incident will be history. They do not like admitting to making errors. And you were approved at your interview, the supervisor also approved it before you received your oath letter.

Bobby, of course I called them last monday, 1 week ahead of the oath to enquire about the RFE, here's what happened:

I asked to speak to a second level officer, a surreal conversation followed, he looked up my file and said he saw nothing. I asked about the email received, he said what did it ask for? I said I dont know, I haven't received the written notice, he asked: when do you think you'll receive it, I said I don't know, you guys sent it out, no? He says: I can't say anything, we have to wait for the actual letter. I said there must be a trace of this letter, could you let me know what's missing in the file? No, we have to wait for the letter. Ok, so there IS a letter that has been mailed? I did not say that, he answers. So I say, if I do not receive anything in the next 2 days, can I assume it's a mistake and go to my oath ceremony? Yes, you can, if you do not receive anything in the next 2 weeks. But my oath ceremony is on Tuesday? Oh, in that case, you should receive it before. Then I ask, can the online system make a mistake? can it send a notice to someone else? or just show a wrong status. He said the email may have been destined to someone else. He did not want to comment at all on the online status thing. My feeling is that the online status messes up more than it should and that they want to say. Please do not trust it. If I hadn't subscribed to their emails, I would've never known about this "phantom" notice.

Bottom line, the online system may have some glitches but they won't recognize it. My neighbor is an attorney and I asked him about it, he said ignore emails, they don't count if not backed by a paper, since I didn't get any paper up till now (email was received July 25), I'll assume it was a technical mistake.

NickD, you can ask on the online status to be emailed each time your status changes and I had set that up when I started the application,so it's an actual email I received from them. When I last checked the online status however, it still says : we received your application March 16. So there's definitely a problem with the online staus thing. Like you said, the online system has flaws but I doubt they'll admit it.

Nothing like taking the joy out of your upcoming oath ceremony! God these people (and their wonky systems) at USCIS are aggravating sometimes. I keep telling myself that everytime they screw up with me, it just makes for a good story when it's all over.

We also subscribed to on-line notice, but during the I-751, think we were checking it every five minutes. But when they finally said they were going to send out the cards, we did get an e-mail to that effect. Not a word with the N-400, probably just as well. Sounds like you did to everything right, but don't you love that double talk?

Let me wish you congratulations, and now you are a USC, just as if you were born here. But I gather that doesn't mean you can run for the presidents office, but anything below that level, the door is open to you.

Don't even worry about it. The online system is totally not working correctly. It does not get updated on time etc.. Official requests are not sent by email only. Congratulations on your citizenship. You are all good. This paper was probably a clerical error as your conversation with the second level officer demonstrates (he did not see such request in your file) You're an American now. Enjoy your new rights.
