The attitude within certain communities seems to be that if they cannot make it as a rapper, athlete or actor, might as well hit the drugs and crime. Obviously the parents have no qualms with this attitude either, thus, the attitude in the first place. I believe the president spoke up against this too. And of course blame someone else.

This is no longer a African American issues. Quite a few Caucasian and Hispanic areas seem to have the same bad attitude. The poor areas in my county are definitely full of whites and Hispanics (more-so whites) trying to be cool.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Funny - I read the article and watched the video - doesn't state what political party she is associated with.

In fact, she referred to herself as "American"...

Nice FUD going on here... <_<

is there a cure for aj-ism?

I doubt it, The poor guy reminded me of a runner looking over his shoulder at the guy gaining on him (with fear in his eyes).

Come on AJ, it's only politics, closeout the "Dailycos" and take a break, we're at the weekend now.

Yeah, Yeah, I know.... you just can't stop.

Well, since that's her home -- and not a business -- it is her right to "keep out" anyone she chooses. However, she probably could've chosen a better way to say or at least, simply use a catch-all "keep out" sign instead. I realize she wants to keep out Hispanics, but who says she couldn't pick and choose who to allow if she merely had a "keep out" sign without the "Hispanic" part of it?

I find it interesting (but not surprising, given what I know about reservations in America) that 5 of the 10 cities are either on or very near Indian Reservations or they are primarily Native American communities. It is no secret that reservations are among the poorest areas in our country. I won't get started on my ethical views of this.... Another 3 of those 10 towns are border towns in Texas. The Oklahoma town is 40% Native American. I really don't think it's a coincidence.

Wounded Knee and Allen, SD: both on or very near to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

Parmelee, SD: on the Rosebud Indian Reservation

Cuevitas, Los Angeles Subdivision, and Brundage, Texas are all three very very near to the border of Texas and Mexico.

Elmo, MT is 70% Native American

Tagg Flats, OK, is 40% Native American

McNary, AZ is 83 Native American

i was wondering if anyone was going to point that out.

Look at the stats I posted previously re: Native American population. And then ask yourself how it is that so many areas of extreme poverty in this country are located on or near reservations. It's sickening.

I have gone through many of the areas where the reservations are and they are really in the middle of nowhere. No industry or anything to bring jobs to them. Also they get many handouts and if they leave the reservation these handouts are gone.

Somehow I rather doubt that "handouts" that keep people on the edge of extreme poverty are the reason that those people stay in those areas.

Pike are you serious?

Handout are exactly what has feed this whole cycle of poverty in this country.

Anyone who has even collected unemployment (not a hand-out) knows when the payments near the end, you get serious about looking for work.

Our nations history is full of episodes of people migrating from one area to another to find their dream... or at least work. When the Gov gives you just enough to get by, the motivation kinda shrivels up... not for all but for many.

I have spent time on reservations in AZ and it seems like a liberal utopia;

-lots of Government programs

-no greedy rich people

We're talking generational poverty here, not someone being off work for a few weeks.

There's nothing utopian about it - what a ridiculous comment!

Reservations were designed to create and perpetuate poverty to assist settlers in making off with the vast resources stolen from the original owner/occupants and managed for years to chip away at the resources that remained on said reservations.
