Police check

We're just starting out gathering stuff to submit, and will probably do so by October or November. Is it too soon to get a police check? I couldn't seem to find any information on VJ concerning that.

Depends on how long the report is valid for. I wouldn't start to get one till the embassy has your petition/application.

(of course if you have multiple ones to get, than perhaps as soon as you get the NOA2)

Police Reports are usually valid for 1 year. 6 months in some places.

Yep, I think in the embassy info on this site it will tell you how long the police certificate lasts.

It is valid for one year, so yes it is a bit too early to get it now. If you have no criminal record it should only take a week to 10 days to receive it, some police stations and some RCMP offices will even do it for you on the same day.

If you do have a criminal record, then you will need to get the fingerprint version from the RCMP. This can take several weeks so you will want to get that done a bit earlier.

I hate to bump this, but is it okay to just go to Commissionaires to get the police check or does it have to come from the RCMP?

Ahh.. durrrr. Nevermind. Just saw on their website that it comes from the RCMP anyway.

police checks are only good for one year, so leave it as long as you can but not too long incase there might be a problem with your background check
