Hi everyone,

After visiting a few other message boards on other websites, let me say I am very grateful grateful to be appart of such a friendly and informative online community ;-)

Question:

It is my understanding that if you are in the US on a F1 student visa and then filing for AOS after becoming married, you then lose your F1 status. What Status exactly did you just become? AOS status? Also, after the status has been converted from the F1 to the new one, are you still entitled to continue your study at the university that you have been studying at since first entering the states?

I know that you have to wait a few months before you can apply to get an authorization to work permit on an F1 visa. Well, after you have transfered to the new status, about how long do you have to wait before applying?

I've searched the forum, guides, and other websites and am still looking for an answer, although there is a chance I may have overlooked it.

Thank you so much!! =)

Hello.

After filing AOS, your status becomes an adjust status for permanent residence, I belived.

I applied for AOS and I am still studing at the same school. It's no problem.

Actually, I was planning to transfer to the different university sooner, but I cannot tranfer to the University right now. According to the University counseler, I should wait for arrival of the greencard.

I could not understand it...Is it OPT? Since you are loosing the F-1 status, you cannot use OPT because it comes with F-1 visa. You can apply for EAD, though. You can file it with AOS.

Good luck
