Hey everybody,

I am about to start the first forms for the K-1 Visa. Is it OK if I fill them out with a pen?

Or, is there some way I can type the information into these forms on my computer and then print them out once they are completed?

Please let me know the best way to make these forms legibile.

Many thanks,

CM178

CM178, it's totally okay to fill out the forms with a pen (just make sure they're legible) but you can type the information in the forms. It's up to you.

If you can't type/write all the info in the fields, have a separate sheet, refer to the question/form you're answering and attach it to the forms.

Be sure to use the most recent version of the forms, by checking the USCIS webpage: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/index.htm

And, of course, have them signed and dated. Triple check that. People have had RFE's for having forgotten to sign their forms and it'll delay the process.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

I used Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (the full version, not Reader). I was able to save and make changes later if I needed too. It also has a 'typewriter' function that lets you type anywhere on the page you need to. My forms looked AWESOME and the people at the embassy thanked me for doing it this way. It was $100.00 for the software, but I just added it to the list of costs I was going to incure to get my wife to the States. I have ended up using the software for other project since then too. Being able to type onto PDFs is just SO handy in today's world.

I did the same thing with the full version of Adobe. And I second Joel's opinion. This way you can save the .pdf documents as you work on them. Well worth the investment.

I used the free version of Adobe to fill in the forms. As was mentioned in a previous post, you cannot save changes with the free version.

You can save the form to your computer, but the filled in text will disappear. I just checked it 10 times before printing.

The USCIS specifically states that if you use a pen, you should use BLACK ink.

I too used Adobe Reader, and it has the ability to "remember" information you put in each block, so that if you do have to redo the form, it is as easy as hitting the tab key to keep the information the same.

The blocks are very small, and it would be very difficult to fill out by hand, especially the G-325A, which you would have to do 8 sheets by hand!!! :o

The people reading your forms truly appreciate them being filled in on a PC, as it makes them easier to read, and therefore avoids any confusion.
