Hey, I like parties, does there have to be a reason to have a party? Why not the full moon or groundhog day? But a 15 year old kid entering motherhood that can't even date? Just seems a bit far fetched to me.

But I still honor the tradition, LOL.

Dear VJ member

what part of it has nothing to do with motherhood nowadays don't you understand? we are just trying to inform you not trash you ok?

Like they say it's tradition for some, and should be respected even if you don't like it and that goes for you also Len. They are on their right to celebrate them if they want to...

Specially if they are not wealthy and uneducated

Coming from a gringa raised in Miami, this is the biggest deal of a young girls life. They scrimp and save to be able to have it in a banquet hall and everything. They go to dance pratice like 5 days a week to learn the moves. It is a spectacle for sure. The granma makes the dress for the little ones to match the ones being rented for the party girl. They give out engraved glasses with the name and date ( yep got a few from daughters relatives collecting dust ) they make chocolate lolipops with the same info. Seriously a big deal on the other side oif my daughters family. Not me, kid got 500 bucks when she turned 16

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

In Mexico a Quinceañera is a huge party kind of like Sweet 16 here in America. It is nothing related to PREGNANCY.

Like you said, times have changed and thus the purpose and/or the perception of this celebration ok?

My Church is something like 85% Latino population...I've seen many of these. I think they are kindof cool.

Not when Lupita ---dark olive skinned- shows up in a peach colored number with ruffles; plus 15 of her hommies from high school in -oh yeah- white and peach tuxedos. That is just wrong. Example:

Picture337.jpg

Why is it wrong? It's beautiful. And, it's tradition. I don't see anything wrong with preserving traditions for the most part.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Certainly not a serious issue, LOL, let's keep it light. But did hear stories where the parents could not afford to pay for a wedding for their daughter, still paying off for the Quinceañera.

I see a lot of these on my drive home from work....I drive past a park w/ a huge water fountain that is popular for wedding/engagement and quinceanera photos. The girl in the above pic doesn't have enough amigas...the groups I see taking photos consist of the birthday girl and at least 9 other girls. I tell you, that amount of the color pink all bunched together is hurtuful to the eye.

I second that JG

I, personally, don't like the colors but if that makes them happy (which does, you can see it on their faces) they can have as many parties with bright colors as they want. Besides, our culture is known to cherish bright colors on houses, clothing, etc even before the 80's...

If you fixate on that part, then of course it won't make sense to you. If you fixate on the celebrate the girls coming into almost adulthood, which is the modern meaning now anyway (like a high society debutante ball), then it is what it is.

And they are lame as #######. Only one of my cousins was trashy enough to demand a party like this one.... we still joke about it

oh, and they have not a thing to do with motherhood

I want the 15añera I never got.

Dang! I wouldn't have had a problem with getting that amount of cash for my 15th/16th.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
