NRA officials Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox said they were disturbed that Sotomayor had voted to reject a challenge to New York state's restrictions on the martial arts weapon called nunchakus and to uphold the drug-distribution conviction of an illegal alien found with 1.2 kilos of cocaine base and a pistol. Both the martial-arts advocate and the drug dealer based their arguments on the Second Amendment, which provides that "a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
