Just a note, ensure your vehichle is compliant before going over the border. Have the receipts to prove that the work has been done and it is now compliant.

I had a lot of trouble because I was told by NY state that it had to be compliant to register it, and just do it when you get here before registering. It made me believe that I could bring the car over without it being compliant but this is not true.

They eventually made an exception as I was stuck in the US (my K-1 had been processed) and my car was stuck in Canada. It took 4 hours and a call to the head person to get this straightened out.

On the other hand, the K-1 visa went smoothly and they never even hardly looked in the U-haul or at my list I spent HOURS making! Glad I had it though.

Also they did NOT care about my x-ray (the Vancouver consulate said to ensure I have it for the border crossing) and they did not care about my immunization records either. The immunization records however will be used for the AOS.

The X-ray thing was a big joke, I packed it to my interview and everywhere, protecting that silly thing, and no one wanted to see it!

You were very lucky they released the car. Glad it worked out OK in the end.

I brought a car in from Ireland and lets just say I had to jump through a LOT of hoops before I let it onto a ship. In my case if it had arrived in Miami and not been accepted it would have been either (my decision) a) been scrapped or B) returned to Ireland at my cost.

Even though there are thousands of non-compliant cars routinely driving the roads here the EPA will not, in their eyes, add to the problem by admitting a non-compliant vehicle.

For anyone considering bringing in a car from Europe this is not an undertaking to be taken lightly. Removal of glass, lights, safety equipment and more is required. UK spec windshields etc are a no-no...
