I went to my HR department to get my employment / income verification letter for my I-134, but they told me that they could not sign one for me and that the HCMC Consulate (or whomever needs this) would have to go to a website (www.theworknumber.com) to get that information. I told them my situation and they didn't budge. This is not the main HR for my company, but the one in my city so I haven't tried calling the main HR number yet. The main HR department would probably not do anything, either.

Has anyone else run into this situation that you just printed out a website address and a "secret code" for them to use?

Another question is that I don't get pay stubs, but I can print them from a website. Do you think they might ask for "original copies"?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

YMMV

Other folks have been referred to the same service (theworknumber.com). No one going through HCMC that I know of. My gut tells me that this won't be enough. As suggested before get your boss/supervisor to write one. Explain the situation.

The CO won't go to the website. You have to supply the info.

Thanks everyone. I'll ask my supervisor tomorrow.

You can do without the Employer letter with tax returns and pay stubs. Why not simply go the website yourself and take a screen shot of the information there?

When I tried to look up the information myself, it wanted to sign me up for a $65.50 / month plan, but I just found something hidden that looks like I may be able to request my own report (and get it in about 2 weeks).

For historical purposes, if anyone else has the same problem, the link is to this file: http://www.theworknumber.com/Employees/report_request.pdf

don't you have a job offer letter?

if not, just type one up and ask if your manager/boss/supervisor/owner can sign it. state the fact that its for immigration - write that on the paper it self.

The consulate will do nothing of the sort, you need to present to THEM...it is YOUR problem. Employer letters are optional. YOU can go to the website and print something but it will not be what the consulate wants in an employer letter so why bother? Unless you just want some gravy, but you could end up with a 212 notice because your (unnecessary) employer letter is not up to snuff, THAT would be foolish. Not sure how HCMC feels about this but it is a difficult consulate to be sure.

Check stubs are more important. Normal copies of check stubs are usually acceptable, it is all I ever provided to the consulate or the USCIS.

Many employers have been advised by their lawyers not to give employment letters or references because other lawyers can sue them and use it against them. Lawyers are lurking everywhere and basically have to file suit to make a living (or drop down to the bottom if they cannot feed with the sharks and scam visa petitioners like carp)

I ran into the same thing about The Work Number. You are entitled to a yearly free report. I sent in for mine and got some information, but not all. So I am submitting what I have. You can also get the code you mentioned from The Work Number, which is then printed off and can be submitted, but they do not say what the charge is up front. From my company's website I also have a benefits summary plus an earnings report that is current, but there is not any company letterhead, but there is the secure URL prints at the bottom of the paper, which has some of the same information with a 401k savings plan. The paychecks are e-pay electronic so there are no hardcopies of the paycheck stubs, but from the company's website I can print the pay stubs, so I am submitting these as well. I am also submitting last year's copy of the federal income tax return, plus a copy of the W2. I am not sure if it will be enough or not. I wonder what others have experienced with this.

Was wondering if anyone here was able to use the www.theworknumber.com and a legit verification for employment and income. I am actually Employed by US Government as a Dept of Defense Engineer and this is the system the US Gov (my agency) is telling me to use. I can't wait for my gov agency to be rejected by another government agency (sarcasm)...

Any updates would be helpful..

I ended up not using the work number. They didn't seem to want to give me what I wanted. I just submitted my Tax transcripts and got a notarized letter from my bank (I work at the bank) saying my depost amount for the past 12 months, but I submitted each month's statement showing the depost amounts. The statments I sent were copies I got from the bank and I just sent the first page of each statement showing the deposit total for that statement period.

You might try asking your boss / supervisor if they could sign a letter with the information about your employment.

regarding theworknumber.com - if your company subscribes to it, they do offer a verification form for immigration purposes that you can print out. but this is an extra service your company may or may not subscribe to. the way to find out is to log into the site in the employee section (you will need your employer name/code). Then in the main account area under verifications it may list "immigration verification" (in addition to the standard options of "prove your employment" and "prove your income with salary key"). alternatively you can call the help line for the site and give them your company info and they can tell you if your company subscribes to that particular service.

I did check theworknumber.com with the DoD account, and I could not find an immigration verification "option". No suprise. So I went to the DoD human resourses department and they wrote me a letter with the I-134 requirements and signed it. They didn't seem to know what I meant by "company stationary", so they printed the DoD logo and address on the letterhead on thick colored paper. Phone #s and contacts were listed and signed by HR. If this sounds like a flag / or not legit enough to anyone let me know.

So i guess for future reference, I suggest that DoD employees go to HR rather than even mess with the online verification known as the workplace.com
