Anyone marry someone who has minor children that for the meantime will stay behind while their mom/dad moves to the US?

We've got four kids between us. I worry he will miss them while he is here, although he would like to bring his son here to go to school once he reaches that age. I worry that the embassy wont let him come here knowing he has minor children there. I know they will ask at the interview - of course we will do all we can to ensure their taken care of while he is here but I dont know if that is something we have to prove to the Embassy or if they even care.

Thoughts?

One bit of advice, if they ask dont lie but dont volunteer any information. On some of the doc's that you have to fill out for the visa, it does ask if your spouse has children...

Are his kids going to be taken care of by family in Jamaica? Why are they not coming with him? He has to list his children even if they are not travelling with him.

There are a lot of yardies (myself included) with step-kids that will remain in Jamaica until a later date. My step-kids will stay with their mother...although I wanted them to come with us...I understand as a mother myself not wanting to be away from my children.

Thanks for the advice everyone...

Yes, they are going to be staying with their mom for now. I wanted them to come as well! Especially the oldest, who will be four years old this November.

My concern was them letting him leave the country knowing he has minor kids. He's a good dad- he's a little anxious about leaving them as well as he wants to make sure they will be supported while hes gone. Mom works, but he does his part and then some.

Its good to know Im not alone in this issue as well!

Hi...from what I can tell they don't hold that against your spouse or SO--if they have minor children still living in Ja. In fact, it seems that they often use this as verification of your relationship--that you know about your spouse's/SO children, how many there are, names, your relationship with them, etc. I wouldn't lie or try to hide that from them at all. You shouldn't have many worries. Good luck on your journey, and join us in the Yardie forum if you want!
