Does Affidavit of Support Disqualify me from Pregnancy Benefits from Govt?

Hi.. My husband and I just learned I'm 6 weeks pregnant. Since I am not yet a citizen at this stage and my AOS hasn't even been approved yet, will my husband be going against his Affidavit of Support if we apply for WIC benefits? They dont ask at WIC for my citizenship status unlike in the govt health care insurance where they are explicit to say non-US citizens dont qualify.

Hi,

This is my understanding of the rules. First off once the baby is born he/she will be eligible for medicaid etc. as he/she will be a US citizen.

You will be eligible to apply for emergency medicaid for the period when you begin labor.

I'm guessing there is no health insurance in the picture?

What assistance programs are not considered means tested public benefit programs?

The following types of assistance are not considered means tested public benefits and do not have to be repaid.

* Emergency Medicaid

* School lunches

* Immunizations and treatment for communicable diseases

* Student assistance to attend colleges and institutions of higher learning

* Some kinds of foster care or adoption assistance

* Job training programs

* Head start

* Short-term, non-cash emergency relief

According to our DSHS Case Worker the State's Health Care Program for kids is also no means tested benefit since in our State (WA where it is called Apple Health) a family of 3 qualifies up to 4200$ in household Income monthly.It is NOT free but VERY cheap.We pay 30 $ for my son per month.

I dont know whether this is available in other Staes too,but it would definitley be worth to be checked out for all of you that have non US Citizen kids with medical needs. (My son has ADHD and has recently been diagnosed with AspergersSyndrome which is an Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Just thought I woiuld share that.
