I-129F - necessity for birth certificate

In the instructions (#3) for I-129F they say a copy of a valid, unexpired, current passport

can substitute for a birth certificate. I have that.

My birth certificate may be misplaced but I know

I can get another one if I need to.

What does the "valid for 5 years" mean - that the time it was valid for was at least 5 years

from the time it was granted or that there must be 5 years remaining in which the passport is valid?

passport OR birth certificate

5 year rule is TOTAL validity not remaining validity. US passports are issued with a 10 year validity other than to minor children

YMMV

You should be able to see the expiry date on the inside of either front or back cover of your passport.

The expiration date of the passport has no meaning in and of itself unless the calendar has already passed that date. What is important is the length of time between the date of issue and the date of expiration. Passports issued to adult US Citizens are valid for 10 years.

If using the passport as evidence of US citizenship, provide a copy of all pages, even the blank ones.

I have copied the entire passport (even the blank pages).

My fiancee copied hers including the outer cover (but not the blank pages).

Since she doesn't need it to prove citizenship, I don't think that matters.

Congrats on your wedding, you look very happy.

About 30 yrs ago I drove from Ethiopia to Rwanda overland.

You have such a beautiful country.

My one "National Geographic" moment was when I witnessed

a herd of galloping giraffes racing against a magnificent sunset.

I was in the Peace Corps in Ehtiopia doing smallpox vaccination for WHO.

When I finished my service I hooked up with a Frenchman who was

married to a lady from Rwanda. We were quite a group along with their

2 pre-teen daughters, but we made it to Kigali in one piece.

Sir, your fiancee does not need to provide any proof of her Thai Citizenship or other identity paper proving who she is at this stage of your visa journey. All she needs from you are her signature on the Biographic Data Form G325A and her signed and dated letter of her intent to marry you addressed to wherever your petition is going which I suppose in Vermont Service Center, looking at your sending it to New York local office.

Mr. and Mrs. Jaime Ferdinand Espiritu

request the honor of your presence

at the marriage of their daughter

Angelie Helena

Gregory William Preston

Thursday, the Fifth of November

Thanks. We already have a copy of her national identity card as well as the letter of intent.
