The prevailing sentiment in India is something like this... the west developed themselves and when we're getting started suddenly we have global warming? #######.

Well the answer to that is... don't breed so much.

Ultimately it is of course. However unless India decides to implement a cull, that's not going to solve the immediate problems faced.

It would be cool if they took a different stance based on starting out with a better approach. Then perhaps they could outsource their developments to their advantage. This is India after all...

Ah, and thereby hangs the rub, is carbon based energy still the most affordable option and by how much? If America, the largest Western economy is driven on a cheap carbon based economy what's the incentive for India to suffer disproportionately?

If it is, then of course anyone launching into alternatives on the grand scale will be at a disadvantage in the global economy. If not then of course it's a potential win win situation for the Indian government.

However unless India decides to implement a cull ...

H1N1.

It's not doing a very good job at killing people. Perhaps the Indian government will deliberately mutate it to something more deadly? At least that way one could say it is truly a cull as apposed to a product of circumstance.

If you want to see a cull in India, all you need is another round of nationwide rioting. The population will decrease, and the end state will have proportionally fewer poor people. Win-win.

No need to kill people, Cleo - just make them unable to produce offspring for 20-30 years.

Rioting doesn't really produce enough dead people to make a difference - if it did, it would already have done so, no?

The problem isn't absolute numbers as much as it is the number of poor and indigent. Riots cull those populations quite well.

Natural disasters do that very well. Tsunami, anyone?

But, by their very nature, natural disasters are not sufficiently selective. Mind you, global warming might be the answer.

My PBS radio is again debating gay marriages this morning, not sure if I like to hear our politicians talk about that again, or global warming. The republicans are against gay marriages, the democrats are against global warming. A simple solution for me, would be to plug in a CD.

Since PBS radio attempts to maintain a professional atmosphere, the debates are controlled by the moderator and never really get heated. Would be more fun for theses politicians to battle it out on WWE. Hear a lot of I think or I don't think. I feel, thinking in any part of these discussions is none existent.
