I received packet 3 about a month and a half I have troubles gettinf all the police records causeI lived in 3countries+canada after I turned 16 so its now that Im gonna send my checklist etc the problem is I red that interviews in montreal are scheduled 3-4months which is really bad, cause my parents have their US visa thats gonna expire 25august and it takes up to 9months to get another from my original country, that means they cant come to the wedding if Idont make it there before 25august! I cant get married without them there and if I wait for them to get another visa my k1 will expire+ my fiancee is a student and he can only be off for august :S I dont know what to do? so now Im thinking of transferring my case file to Halifax where the wait time isnt solong, is it possible to do it ?? is there anything I can do to explain this to them ...help pls

Only TWO consulates in canada do K1 interviews Montreal and Vancouver. There other consulates do NOT conduct interviews! Which consulate you goto is based on where you live in Canada! Mb and west to Vancouver, and Ont East to Mtl! Now some that started living in the east have gotten their file transfered to Vancouver because they have moved West. And I'm sure some gave a West coast address, to get it changed, lol But Halifax is 100% not an option!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

No, sorry - the only consulates that handle K-1 Visas are Montreal and Vancouver - Montreal is anyone Ontario and east and everyone west is Vancouver. The other consulates only handle certain things. Believe me, I lived in NB and had family in Halifax...I would have loved to go there instead of driving to Montreal in January.

I hope things work out for you :)

Like the others have mentioned Halifax does not do K1 Visa interviews. The only consulate that does them in the East is Montreal.

You could try emailing the Montreal Consulate and asking them about scheduling you sooner, but there is no guarantee.

The interview date can only be provided once you send them your Packet 3. So you should wait to email them once they have received your Packet 3.

If you haven't already sent it back, I would recommend sending it ASAP! At this point, an interview before August is going to be highly unlikely, especially if you haven't sent back Packet 3.

Another option would be simply have a civil ceremony once you get your visa and cross and then have a wedding celebration with your parents once they are able to travel back to the United States.

As Sapphire said, why not have a simple civil/courthouse wedding for legal purposes? That's why we did, our parents did not attend. Then, when your parents can come back even if it's a year later, have your wedding celebration. Then you have time to plan and save money too. I know it's not ideal, but you may not have a choice really.

Not to be a wet blanket, but you should probably accept the fact that your interview isn't going to be when you'd hoped it would be. The consulate isn't going to bump you up ahead of other deserving people who are on a waiting list just like you.

The timelines are what they are....not that you shouldn't try, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's a long wait for everyone and frequently very inconvenient.

Good luck to you!

In the "K1 People Waiting for an Interview Thread" someone just emailed the Consulate and was told that August is full for interviews and that they are scheduling September interviews soon.

And also, INKY got an August interview fast because of a military expedite. They take those very seriously.... and miltary expedites are the only people I've ever seen get an interview within 2-4 weeks. Everyone else waited at least 6 weeks after sending back Packet 3. Just telling you this so you are realistic.

Hope it all works out for you.
