1st Face2Face Meeting - Don Muang Airport

It was a dark & stormy night...

actually it was midnight and in the April 2004 (hot summer) season.

I had a 2-leg trip from JFK, United to Narita (Japan) & ANA to Don Muang (Thailand).

I bought the ticket from United, so they gave me a "United" flight number for the ANA leg via email.

So I emailed my sweetheart with this flight number so she could meet me at DM on arrival.

=>>"Big Duh-Uh" Homer...

I got off the plane at DM and no sweetheart.

The backup plan was naturally to go to the nearest KFC and hook up there if there was a mixup.

I went to the nearest KFC and no sweetheart.

I asked the counter guy if that was the only KFC in DM airport.

"Yes sir, there are 3."

OK I change $$$ into some Thai baht and look for a public phone (I have her cell number).

There are English instructions on the telephone but every effort to place a call ends in failure.

I ask a young lady standing nearby seeing the helpless farang for assistance which she gladly offers.

Fantastic! Telephone contact at last but sweetheart is in the OTHER terminal (of 2)

because she couldn't find my flight number.

==>>By now your hero realizes that the United flight number for the ANA flight had nothing

to do with the ANA flight number that was posted at the gate upon my arrival at DM airport.

=>>Another "Big Duh-Uh" Homer...

Sweetheart: "Where are you darling?"

Homer: I'm in the part of the terminal (recite numbers I see at various nearby gates) where you aren't.

Sweetheart: "Tell me how to get there."

Homer: "I'll get more information and call you back. Don't go anywhere." (Homer hangs up)

I get hold of a young lady in a DM airport security uniform.

She calls Sweetheart from her cell phone and gives exact instructions in Thai how to get to where I am standing.

About 15 min. later a figure appears in the distance way across the open area, like between 2 ends of a football field.

I can't make out her face, but I KNOW it's HER.

The feelings I had when she walked straight toward me, not doubting for one second that it was ME she

was looking for were just awesome. Neither one could see the other's face but we were both 100% sure

who we were looking for. (It's good that you send actual pics of yourselves when you interact online,

not of Lucy Liu & Brad Pitt)

It kind of reminds me of an old French movie I saw when the French guy was thinking about his sweetheart

and it evoked a visual/sound image of a seashore and seagulls. He saw that image & heard those sounds

whenever he looked at his sweetheart.

I hope none of you had to go through a scene where she checks out every farang in the airport, only to get to

you as the "last resort." Even if it was 90 minutes after my arrival, she came to me as if guided by radar.

No recriminations, accusations or doubts about who was responsible for the snafu but smiles & kisses all around.

We couldn't get to the hotel fast enough!

That to me was the beginning of the rest of my life.

The cycle of abuse continues. I recommend counseling. Her slave/master days are over...except in the bedroom.

I don't mind. She didn't have any parents to raise her. She struggled most of her life. In my mind even though it hurts, I understand why she's like that. I had an easier life here in the states. I forgive her all the time. So, sometimes when I'm lazy she'd beat me up.
