Do you honestly believe that is what would happen Gary? I sadly agree with BD when he said that the way government works, if it's not done now, it will not get done this presidential cycle - something a lot of Republicans would like, so we get all this bullshit grandstanding. I agree with you incidentally, but I also don't think that waiting would equal doing it right, it would equal doing more nothing.

Gotta give the Right propaganda machine a little more time to try and stop fixing the broken system!

What would be good to hear is the crashing thud of that huge chip on her shoulder falling to the ground. She has a real problem with anyone who doesn't have to cry poor and beg for government handouts. I'd rather be insulted for having money than have to defend wasting it.

You are never going to understand that I have no problem with wealth.

What I do have a problem with are people who act like it makes them better than others.

If you've got what you say you have, then you should be thanking whatever Omnipotent Power you believe in for it. And you should be doing a little bit of something to help those who aren't as fortunate as you.

This is not about bragging. I'm not going to be bullied into not being able to post my opinions based on my reality, just as you do based on yours. The only thing i did to make you think I act like I'm better than others is say I have money. That alone ticked you off the first time and any other time I said it. Your defensiveness, sense of entitlement, and tendency to dwell in a utopia where you openly resent anyone who has more than you makes you a lot less empathetic than you think you are.

That I want to control my assets and not be forced to give more and more to the govenment for their socialist income redistribution agenda incites you. I exercise right to piss you off by contrasting my situation to those who want to take from me, but it's you who allows me to do so.

You don't want to contrast your situation to "those who want to take from" you.

You want to remind everybody who reads your posts that you have wads 'o cash. Supposedly.

Just because I am unimpressed by your alleged bank account doesn't mean that I resent it. And just because I don't have what you claim to have does not make me defensive or entitled.

I've hit several bumps in the road in my lifetime. I'm on one now. I'll recover. My life will be different after I do - I don't yet know in what ways. It's a bit scary - well, it's a lot scary. But I have to look at it as a chance to find out something new about myself - about my husband and our life together. Who knows - we may end up back in his country.

All I know is this - I doubt I will starve, wherever I am. Conversely I doubt I will ever be able to look down on my fellow man because I've been blessed with financial wealth. Either are OK by me. I'm not defined by how much I have. You are right that I'm defined by what I can take from others. It's just not their money I'm interested in taking. I'm interested in knowing, learning, growing and expanding from the sharing of the human experience.

If that makes me defensive, entitled and resentful - I'll take it.

Two points here:

1) The GOP has made abundantly clear what their actual objective is: Ensure that Obama will not succeed on healthcare reform. The GOP failed to stop their loudmouth Jim DeMint who came right out and said what the GOP strategy is: "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." This now being out in the open, I say again what I said weeks ago: ** the GOP, ** their support for legislation, get it done and get it done now.

2) Sadly, the Democrats are heading down the wrong path looking to pour more money down a failed system and looking to stuff the pockets of the profiteers of this failed system ever more. It's sad, really, just how sold out Congress is.

Seeing that US spends roughly twice per capita what other industrialized nations spend on health care (over $2tn p.a.), and seeing that - depending on who you want to believe - 20% to 30% of that goes towards red tape whilst single payer systems have about 1% - 5% of overhead, there are savings somewhere in the range of $300bn - $400bn anually to be realized by simply abandoning the fractured health insurance business in favor of a single payer system. This would be more than enough to cover any and all Americans w/o giving up on service.

It's a no-brainer to me but the health insurance industry has fat pockets which America has filled over the years and they are making an investment into their future by buying the kind of "reform" that will let them profit insanely where profits shouldn't be made at all.

Found this in my e-mail box this morning.

Dear Friend,

As you read this, we are closer than ever to passing comprehensive health insurance reform that benefits American families and small businesses. Despite all the back and forth in the news right now, it is important to understand just how far we've come in this challenging process.

That's why I'm holding a press conference tonight at 8pm ET, and writing to let everyone know where we are, what's ahead, and why health insurance reform is so important.

Let me be clear: although Congress is still debating parts of the legislation we have achieved critical consensus on several key areas:

If you already have health insurance: reform will provide you with more security and stability. It will limit your own out of pocket costs and prevent your insurance company from dropping your coverage if you get too sick. You'll also have affordable insurance options if you lose or change your job. And it will cover preventive care like check-ups and mammograms that save lives and money.

If you don't have health insurance: you will finally have guaranteed access to quality, affordable health care, and you can choose the plan that best suits your family's needs. And no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition.

Now, I realize that the last few miles of any race are the hardest to run, but we can't stop now. There's no dispute about it: we cannot control our long-term fiscal health as a nation without health insurance reform. American families and small businesses understand that the health insurance status quo is taking away those things that they value most about health care. The stability and security that comes with knowing that you can get the treatment you need, when you need it. Without reform, we are consigning our children to a future of skyrocketing premiums and crushing deficits.

We have to seize this opportunity and pass health insurance reform this year. You can help by forwarding this email to your family and friends and letting them know what's at stake in this debate.

Thank you,

Barack Obama"

NickD, how did you get on their email list? :o

I think the Chavez government may have sold your email ID to the Kenyans.

Send me a note at http://www.whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/ to complaint about why I had to claim interest earned on my CD when the rate of government caused inflation exceeded the interest payments. Am paying taxes on money that I am losing!

Never got an answer, but get these letters instead, could report them as spam, but I will give him another couple of more months.

Maybe that's part of the 'they want him to fail' bit.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Which is better, doing it fast or doing it right? This is something that all of us will have to live with for the rest of our lives. I for one would like to see them take their time and do it right.

Gary,

Even if you give them two years to "think it through", they'll start reading it the night before they vote on it anyway.

I don't expect the congress people themselves to read the whole thing. They each have aides. Assign 10 of your aides 100 pages each to go through in the next week and give a report. Its an easier project than they had to do in college.

Say you make $50000 a year but your employer doesn't offer health insurance (not all employers do you know). If you had to insure your family privately, it would probably cost around $1200 a month. That's $14,400 per year - nearly 30% of your gross wages.

Insurance wouldn't cost that much if you're single. If you're married with kids, then assuming

your spouse has a job, the numbers are more like 2 x $50,000 = $100,000; 15% of your gross wages.

And $14k a year for insurance is likely a good (not great) plan.

People always have the choice of buying cheaper plans.

That way you get all the mental satisfaction of believing you're covered in the event something should happen, without the expense of meaningful coverage should anything actually happen.

It's a win-win, as long as nothing happens.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
