So everyone thinks they should pay for Jim's treatment and also pay for Jim's living expenses which includes controlling the disease with whatever medications for the rest of his life since he won't be able to work? What if Jim lives to be 100?

That's why we send him to the spice mines of Kessel.

It would be no change from our current system. Are you against social security benefits entirely?

I disagree - she is studying to be a doctor... so I would think she would wind up seeing these kinds of patients often, hopefully with some empathy.

I'm hoping she'll force him into a dentist's chair and ask, "Is it safe?"

It would probably be C, but I couldn't answer for sure unless I knew all the facts. You don't tell us what the disease is, what you mean by the doctors being able to "control" it, etc. Is Jim going to just be a vegetable his entire life after treatment? What is the treatment? Will he need home health visits or be confined to a nursing home for the rest of his life? Will he need lots of expensive medications to "control" this disease or will the one time treatment cure it? I assume it won't be cured since you say he will never be able to work again, but what condition will he be left in? Could he do volunteer work that isn't as demanding as a paid job so he is giving back or contributing in some way? There's a lot more things to think about than just the information you have given us.

If Jim was going to be miserable, in a nursing home, on expensive medication, and/or basically a vegetable the rest of his life then there would be no reason for him to live. I think his life would only have any real value to the people who know him or love him. Then, I think Jim should decide what he thinks will be best for him and his family. He would have to consider a lot of things as well.

I retract my statement

Will you tell a patient that "there would be no reason for him to live"?

LaL would you want to live like that? Have you ever been to a nursing home? Sitting in a nursing home as a vegetable and not even knowing what's going on around you isn't a life. It's a place you go while waiting to die because no one else can take care of you anymore.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

life is a ####### shoot. he rolled snake eyes.

What does that mean?

It means that if you are blessed with good health then you deserve to live a long and prosperous life. Should you be born with any kind of disability, or potential therefore, you either pay even if you have no money or you suffer because of the disability. That's the hand god dealt you ;)

I'd have preferred if you let him explain his own idiom, but now that you've taken the time to type that out.... Charles, is that an accurate assessment? If not, please explain.

google snake eyes

Snake-Eyes[1] (originally Snake Eyes)[2] is a fictional character from G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, a line of military-themed toys created by Hasbro. The character is one of the original members of the fictional team and toy line. He is a major character in the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic book series and animated series. He has also appeared in G.I. Joe: Sigma 6, appearing in both the animated series and comic book. He is most known for his rivalries with Cobra.

Sad to see that my Mom would be dead already, if it were after some of you. After all, she has incurable cancer, will never be able to go back to work or do volunatry work, some days can't go shopping, is 100% disabled, suffers from chemo side effects, basically just sits around all day and only means something to the few people that love her.

Die Sylvia, die! Can she at least have a funeral or shall we make dog food from her, so at least her dead body is good for something?

I think a society is there to look out for it's citizens. Regardless of age, education or what the person has contributed to society.

what if they don't contribute at all- like a career criminal?
