btw: If he is ill and cant work, go on disablity..equals instant medicaid coverage.

Not if he dies before winning the case. Many life threatening illnesses are not immediately approved for disability and go through a long appeals process.

How about he does what thousands of other people do to get around and cheat the income requirements of medicaid and cut his hours back so he meets such criteria.

Oh no! I've been around the system too long and know all of their tricks! ahhhhh

That's what I thought.

Do they require pre-payment for this? They can't refuse treatment, can they?

Choice A out of the choices given.

I believe health care is a right, not a privilege.

So some stranger's kid will end up in a state college instead of a better private college so Jim may live?

How do you justify that?

State colleges are sometimes better than private ones. And in our country higher education is a privilege not a right. There are grants, loans, scholarships for college.

Health care should be a right, not a privilege.

But he will be in a crowded auditorium taking 101 classes with 200 other kids, instead of in a smaller more private setting with a higher degree of one-on-one attention.

I hope he doesn't catch some contagious disease while in that crowded auditorium due to the fact that some of his classmates can't afford adequate medical care!

You did say the college fund would be 'scaled back' not eliminated. However, if it's eliminated, well, it's time to upgrade the health care system again.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You are on your own until you are approved for disability, then *if* you win (think years in some cases) then the date of disability can be backdated, but I don't know about them backdating coverage for medical care associated with the condition prior to approval. You certainly can't say "i need this procedure and am trying to get disability, in which case medicare will pay eventually.

Also - its not *instant* medicare - you have to be disabled for 2 years in order to be eligible and eligibility begins 2 years after you are approved.

You're right, it can take a up to year or two. SSA will usually deny every case on the first go around. Appeals can take a few months to a year depending on how it is handled and the documentation.

Jim can go to his local indegent provider(teaching hospital/clinic) and get treatment in the mean time ?

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

AJ, you disappoint. I would have expected euthanasia as an option to be included. After all, according to the story you created, the sick bum can't work and would be a burden to the taxpayer for 6 fcuking months.

Even better -- let's launch him into outer space!

Well he can come to Washington. Voters approved the Death with Dignity Act this year.

So everyone thinks they should pay for Jim's treatment and also pay for Jim's living expenses which includes controlling the disease with whatever medications for the rest of his life since he won't be able to work? What if Jim lives to be 100?
