Documents requested by hand during Interview.

During my AOS interview yesterday, the IO asked for a document that I did not possess in original and he wasn't convinced by the copy and its certified translation. I am sure he did me a favor by telling me that if he sends me a RFE it will consume alot of time, and before the Supervisor gets to my file, I should have the document brought in and have it dropped at the building in an envelope with his name on it. Does this happen? What my concern is that what if the document doesn't reach the concerned Officer. Not to mention, if it gets lost, I may not be able to prove that I did bring it in. It will be days before i get my hands on the paper since its been shipped from my home country. And since the IO wants to see the original only, how do I get it back. Once gone in the file, I don't think they'll release the document, even if it reaches the concerned Official

The IO is here to help you, if he is asking from you to deliver it you should do so. Unless you want your case to be put on hold and/or denied.

This happens all the time, couples being asked for extra supporting documentation during the interview. If you want to be reassured he got it just ask to speak with him or schedule an infopass appointment if you don't hear from them in a timely manner.

Being paranoid doesn't help, relax and do as told.

Use courier delivery (UPS, FEDEX, DHL) so you can have the document within 2-3 days.

Have someone "receive" the document you are submitting. Photocopy the original document and have the person sign it when he or she receives it at the USCIS office. Seal the envelope after she signs and sees that the photocopy and the original is the same. Its like your own version of receipt notice. It would be a lot easier to prove that you submitted the required document in case they lose it.

Why would want the original back? Can you not request for another one in case you need it again?

Try to relax saspak. Deal with the situation one step at a time. Right now the important thing is for you to submit the document.

Ok i think if you want to send then you have to send. I think rather than courier hand delivery at the counter is the best. But the courier gives you a confirmation receipt. As visa chek said adding a G-884 is needed. I hope you have a translation because its in Urdu and not in English. Here you can read about the G-884 form, uscis website strangely didnt have any

I understand you dnt want to give the original and i also dnt have any idea why he wants it. A notarised photocopy wd be more than enough. But then no point in going against USCIS.

What i meant was for the document be sent thru courier from saspaks home country to his US address.

Thank You visacheck, Christeraa22, TävôLuDô for your input and advice. The documents are on its way to my address. I should be receiving them through Fedex sometime on before the 27th. You are right. No point in going against the USCIS. If they asked for it, it has to be submitted. I would want to submit it by hand as thats what was asked of me. I hope they hold my case till then. I'll see if they will sign a copy of the document as a receipt. Will keep you guys posted. I am grateful to you all for your concern and help.

OK, received the document and delivered it personally at the USCIS office where my interview was conducted. Asked the officer at the counter if they would give me a receipt as proof. He punched the Photocopy for me through his machine. Aparently many applicants are asked to drop off documents on person to avoid unnecessary delays and I didn't have any problem. Now have my fingers crossed.

One quick question.

Can an Applicant translate a document himself and sign it?

Saspak you just have to wait a little more and try to relax.. I know when it come to INS is really hard to relax.. Most likely you are approved.. it was just a matter of getting the document to the IO.. You will be celebreting soon...
