Unsure about J1 two year home residency requirement

Hi. My husband is a US citizen and we're thinking of applying for my green card now through DCF. I'm wondering how I'm going to prove my two year home residency has been fulfilled. I was on a student J-1 visa in 2006 (and yes, subject to the two-year requirement as stated on my visa) but I left the US in June and quit my program. Does this mean that my two year home residency will begin from June onwards (the date I arrived back in my home country) or the date that my program was terminated (Dec 2006)? Would I need documentation to prove this since I didn't complete the program? And if I travelled outside of my home country but maintained my residency, does that not count towards my home residency requirement?

Thanks!

about your last question: the time you travel in another country other than your home country will not count.

i have the same question as you do about when the counting starts. anybody cares to shed some lights? thx in advance

The counting starts once you leave the US (mid-program, end of program). If you have overstayed, it starts when you set foot in your country.

They will ask for proof that you were in the country for those two years so stamps in the passport on arrival would work (and it shows in your G-325a which you completed)
