Biometrics appts - separate for mother and daughter?

Hello All:

We submitted the documents to remove conditions for my wife and step-daughter at the end of May. My wife had her biometics appointment on July 10. When we got the appointment letter, I assumed (because I had no other ideas) that the appointment was really for both my wife and step-daughter.....even though the appointment letter only included my wife's name. When we arrived for the appointment, my wife was told that only her biometrics would be taken and that my step-daughter would have to wait to get her appointment in the mail.

To me, this is a bit strange. When we first applied for AOS, my wife and step-daughter both had biometrics done at the same time.

Keep in mind that when we filed the I-751, my step-daughter was included and we paid the extra $85 for her biometrics at that time (and the receipt we got from USCIS indicates the correct fee).

Is is normal for a mother and her underage daughter to have separate biometrics appointments when applying for removing of conditions? Has anyone had this experience? Or is there a problem on which I need to follow up with USCIS?

Any help, as always, is appreciated.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes it is normal for I-751 applicant involving mother and daughter to have separate biometrics appointments. Since both require conditions to both removed and are separate individuals. Biometric involves finger prints and pictures then when processing becomes current they send it to FBI for background check so it has to be separate.

Like Haole asked did your step-daughter get separate NOA or not.

I would suggest to either make an infopass to inquire about the biometric appointment letter or call USCIS customer service number 1-800-375-5283 (option 1,2,3) and talk to the rep and do service request for the biometric appointment letter.

I think do the service request first and wait for 30 days if you don't get the biometric appointment then do the infopass appointment.

Normally the biometric can come in between 30-60 days after NOA (Notice of action).

Hope it helps.

Good Luck.

Thanks to both. Yes, I understand they are separate persons and get separate letters. Its just that during AOS, the letters always arrived same day. To answer the question, no, my step-daughter did not receive her own I-751 receipt. I assume this was normal as my wife as the petitioner. The I-751 receipt notice she received did, however, reflect the entire amount we paid, which included the biometrics fee for my daughter.

I would think that if the daughter's name was also listed on the notice of action, then she should be fine and just wait until she gets her biometric appointment letter.

I am trying to find it but for some reason it escapes me. I think when a child is under 14 they do not do BIO even though you pay for it. Maybe by bumping this Pushbrk or yuanddan will come in and correct me if I am wrong.

My 11 year old daughter got her own NOA1 1 year extension letter about a week after moms. It was a screw up tho as my daughter was a USC. I had to get my senator to square things up.

Sounds like you need to also.

Thanks again to everyone. I just wanted to give you an update, in hopes that it might help someone else. We called USCIS this morning. Even though I'm the joint petitioner, they eventually asked to speak to my wife. The officer confirmed that since my step-daughter is under 14, she is not required to have biometrics (even though we still had to pay the fee) and they will use the photo that was taken previously on the permanent green card. The officer never really said why my step-daughter did not get a notice, but she did provide us with her receipt number in case we needed to call again. So, it appears that everything is OK.

She's not OK if she doesn't have the extension letter. Can't travel for one.

My daughter is 11 and had to have biometrics for AOS. Where will the picture on 10 year GC come from?

Be careful with the info USCIS gives you. They aren'r called the"misinformation service" for nothing.

Just to let you know that we experienced the same process. My wife had her biometrics today, but her 5 y.o. son did not get a biometrics notice. He received a "notice of inclusion" with a one year extension about a week after my wife's NOA1. My assumption is either they will notify him later or they won't do it.
