Here are some questions I have for you.

1. I make over the 125% needed for the Affidavit, but we thought it best to get a co-sponsor just in case we need it. My sister agreed to co-sponsor for us. My question is, will there be opportunity to submit her I-134 if it is needed or do we have to submit it right away in order for it to count.

2. I have a statement from my employer, my pay stubs for 6 months and my W-2's from last year. However, I'm having problems getting a statement from my banks. Is it absolutely important for me to send that too or can I just print out my online statement and have them certify it at the bank? Would that be enough?

3. In the I-134 on Question 7 there is a section that states, "I have other personal property, the reasonable value of which is." What property are they talking about exactly? Is it just big things like vehicles or do they mean appliances or books, furniture and things like that too? Also, do you have to provide evidence as to the ownership of the reported value like you do with everything else?

4. At the end of the I-134 there is a part where you have to check whether you "intend" or "not intend" to make contributions in support of the beneficiary. My sister as the possible co-sponsor does not intend to make any contributions to our household. If she checks "not intend" will that count against us? That part was kind of confusing for me but who knows?

I'm sure I have other questions but these are the only ones I can think of at this point. Thanks in advance for you help.

If you are using income to qualify then you don't need the bank account and asset info.

Be sure to include either an IRS transcript of your 2008 tax return or a copy of the return and all supporting documents (W2, 1099, Schedule C, etc.) Better to supply more than required and get the visa than give the minimum and get an RFE

If you want to have the co-sponsor as a back up, bring the co-sponsor's completed I-134 to the interview. Be sure to have all the needed documents for that as well.

1. You probably do not need a co-sponsor. If you are going to present one, I would do it right away and not sit around and wait for them to ask, which may just get you a 212 notice and unnecessary hassel. It is highly likely the person that reviews your case will NOT be the person that collects the documents or does the interview. If you are not comfortable with it, just give all the information when they ask for it. The I-134 is of such short life (until you do the AOS) it cannot possibly matter to anyone.

2. Bank statements can be substituted. I wrote the bank letter myself, took it to the branch President and asked her to type it on letterhead and sign it. I said "I'll wait here" and took a seat in her office. She had it done in about 5 minutes. They will verify your figures are correct.

3. You make enough AND have a co-sponsor, leave this blank

4. Answer "If she is a good little wifey and gives me sex on Wednesday nights I will support her"

Really? Answer..."NA, K-1 visa"

Thank you both for the replies!

Gary: On Q #4 asked about what my sister would put, not me. I know I'm supposed to put N/A K-1 Visa.

Your sister would put the same. It is still a K-1 and it is still "NA". Your sister is co-sponsoring, she is not providing support. She doesn't need to check either box...the question is "not applicable" to a K-1 visa.

Hi,

A long time friend of mine is a US citizen, and we briefly heard about some kind of visa that the foreign individual can get while the US citizen sponsors him or her. The US citizen is required to have income of 35k or so a year, and he/she needs to prove it upon sponsoring the foreign individual.

Q1. Is this visa/sponsorship's official name I-134 Affidavit of Support?

Q1.2. If not, what is the official name?

Q2. If so, what steps do I need to take next in order to go ahead, ask his sponsorship and get visa/sponsorship?

Q3. Should I hire an immigration lawyer to handle this properly?

Q4. How long does this take usually?
