just a quick question:

is it possible to keep getting your 10 yr card renewed every 10 yrs even if you are denied citizenship at the interview? is it a separate thing? or if you get denied citizenship you lose your 10 yr card too?

Mostly no impact on GC...... but..... if the denial is for previous lies in the immigration process, or serious crimes committed, then bad things could happen.

No, nothing serios, I took voluntary departure from USA in 2005, got my 10 yr card 2 weeks ago, can apply for citizenship in October.. Want to know what my chances are for citizenship? Was honest on all my immigration paperwork and still received 10 yr card..

As long as you keep living in USA, you can always renew your GC.

Many people never learn english, and when they grow old ( I can't remember the age) they can become a citizen and take the test in their language.

Oh and regarding the times you can take it:

If you take the test for the first time and you don't pass it, you have a second chance to take it again and you don't have to pay for it. But if you have the third chance to do the US citizenship test you have to pay for the interview again.

I think the new test is easier. If your english is good and you study about civics of course.

If you are denied citizenship you are still considered a permanent resident so yes, you can remain a permanent resident and just keep renewing your card every 10 years.

I believe you can apply for citizenship as often as you like but you would need to address the reason why it was denied before you reapplied. If it was because you don't meet residency requirements yet then there is no point applying until you do meet residency requirements, things like that.

If you have a brain up there in your skull, haven't been convicted of a crime, and meet the residency requirements, you will not be denied.

If you don't want to become a USC, as many others, who do not want to renounce their previous citizenship, you can renew your card for the rest of tme, even after it expired, without negative implications.

Bernie,

one more thing: if you want to do dual citizenships, you NEED to get a "Beibehaltungsbescheinigung" from Germany first (about 260 Euros). If you don't get this BEFORE taking on the US citizenship, you automatically lose your German one. In order to get it, you need to prove 2 things:

1) why you really want to keep your German one (family ties, housing, accouts, etc.) and

2) why not becoming a USC would create a hardship for you.

Point 2 is MUCH more difficult to make, as not being able to vote etc. are not good enough. Basically the Germans say: go live as a German citizen in the US. There is a whole Group on Yahoo discussing this in German. Basically, it can be done, but it's not a walk in the park.

Is this a hypothetical question or were you actually denied? Some are guessing as to why you were denied, did you answer yes to overthrowing the government? Don't have to answer that, and the other hand, if you need help in getting your USC, somebody here may help you, but should know if the reason, if you were indeed denied.
