relax... marriage needs to occur 90 days after entry... has nothing to do with the time period stated on the notice you received...

YMMV

Please can the organisers move this to the African sub-forum where she will get more help.

To the OP: Your Fiance should have gone to pick his packet 3 up from the Lagos Embassy but since he hasn't done that, my advice would be for you to email them to know the next step since they changed that rule 1st July. The mail service in Lagos is not reliable except it's a private mail box( I grew up in Lagos). Now they send packet 3 out to beneficiaries address and there are some areas in Lagos where I don't think mails get delivered to but your Fiance might not live in one of those.

And you don't get married within the 4 months approval notice period but 90 days from when your Fiance enters the US once he is issued a K-1 visa. Don't worry about the time, just start gathering all the documents he will need for the interview and he needs to get police reports and his long style birth certificate from the local government. You need to get pro-active to avoid any issues.

Those who have gone through Lagos will be in a better position to advice you though.

All the best.

Me and another lady are waiting as well for our fiance's interview date. My fiance went to the embassy today and was told that due to the construction (there reason for the July 1st change) that they havent assigned any new interview dates. He told them he has emailed them several times without a response. The officer he spoke to advised him that they will be contacting him soon via email. I do know of one other lady whose fiance got his interview date right before the change and she received a email over the weekend advising her of her fiances interview date. This shows I think they are working on getting them out to us. Lets just keep praying they will contact us soon with the date.

Nigeria did respond to my emails in a 1 time timely manor. The others took a couple of weeks.

I would advice the OP to put her case number(it should be on the NVC letter) on the subject line when sending an email to the Lagos embassy, that way it probably won't be deleted and might catch their attention.

I recommend calling the consulate instead of e-mailing them. In dealing with the consulate in Ethiopia they never responded to any of my e-mails, but they were extremely helpful on the phone.

I have tried that several times as well. Most of the numbers I call just ring- no one answers. The one time I got through to someone was a Nigerian man. I explained as to why Im calling and he ask me to hold just to put me through back to the automated message. This "ring around the rosey" act continued several times before I just gave up and hung up.

If anyone has a number that they know works to speak to someone other than the operator please let us know...

When my husband was waiting for the date of his second interview after AP, I wrote the embassy once a week for an entire month and the only response I ever got was the auto response. I had eight phone numbers that I could try, all of which were never answered. I even tried their fax number which never picked up the fax. The way I finally found out the date of the interview was to call Department of State. They have access to what is going on with your case.

Good luck!

Your welcome! They should also be able to tell you the exact date and time of his interview. They have access to that information as well. That was the only way I found out because the embassy had told my senator that they had sent my husband an email with the date when they didn't.
