Hello everyone,

I am sorry if this info is already on here and if it is, if someone can give me the link I would much appreciate it.

My husband (Canadian) and I (US) got married last month. I am finalizing all the documents to begin the process of getting him here. We are going the CR-1 route so that he can start to work as soon as he is able to move here. I just want to be certain that I have everything straight in my head for the first process.

So I need to file the I-130 along with the the G-325-A forms filled out by both of us and the filing fee. My supporting documentation is:

1. 1 Passport Style Photo for both of us

2. Copy of my birth certificate and passport

3. Copy of Marriage Certificate

4. Copy of his Divorce Certificate

5. 2 Affidavits of friends who were at our wedding

6. Affidavit from me stating the relationship is real and describing our relationship

7. Copies of photos from different places of me and my husband (about 20 pics)

8. Copies of wedding photos (about 12 pics)

9. Printed copies of a few yahoo messenger conversations and emails (most important ones of our relationship like when he asked me to be his girlfriend, his first email to me, etc. We talked every day on messenger for hours. Do I really need every conversation or would a good assortment from our relationship work?)

10. Airline receipts showing trips we took together or to visit each other

We don't have anything in both our names because we have not been able to do that since he does not have a SSN yet. So is there anything else I'm missing? I'm starting to second guess myself and nerves are setting in and I don't want to miss anything.

Oh, and a question about the I-130. I'm not sure how to answer question 22. "Complete the information below if your relative is in the US and will apply for adjustment of status......" He still lives in Canada and only comes here to visit. Do I need to fill this out, or can I just answer N/A? Is my thinking correct that since he maintains a residence in Canada that he doesn't need to file for Adjustment of Status for a CR-1 visa or am I really confused? :help:

Thank you to everyone for their help and setting my mind at ease. I'm sure you can all understand I just want to be with my husband and don't want to mess anything up.

I used this guide since it goes step by step.

But to find the general CR1 guide, there is a link at the top of your page that says "Guides". Good luck on your journey

^^ Agreed! Reading the guides will be a big help.

I think you have more than enough proof of your relationship. Personally I would omit the affidavit from you describing your relationship. Not sure it would hold much weight as you are the sponsor. All we submitted were 3 notarized affidavits from witnesses at our wedding. We saved all of the other stuff (pictures, emails, phone bills etc.) for the interview but were not required to show anything! In general the proof of the relationship is usually questioned at the interview if at all. (As a side note, I am only referring to most experiences at Montreal, not other consulates.) Keep in mind whatever you send with your I-130 will NOT be returned!

As far as question 22 goes we actually left it blank and had no issues. However, it is not recommended to leave any areas blank so N/A would be acceptable. You are correct, no adjustment of status is required with the IR1/CR1 visa.

Good luck
