We submitted our AOS package in April and were given an interview date in late August.

What should we expect at the interview and other than the obvious (photos of us together), what should we bring?

How much time should we plan on being there?

How critical is it that we have something that bears both of our names (such as joint checking account, electric bill, etc.)?

Very critical. Read the AOS Guides here on VJ to get an idea of the evidence to be presented. You are there to demonstrate/prove that you are living life as a married couple.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I'd like to get a sense of how much time we should allow for the interview.

Also, what non-required material might be useful to help convince them we're in a legitimate relationship (thinking photos of us together, affidavits signed by friends of us, etc.)

Will they need to keep any original forms/documents?

Thanks.

Timewise it is really dependent on where you are having the interview. Every office is different. Some are good about being on time, some run late. As well, if the interview is straight forward you could be in and out in 10 to 15 minutes. If there are problems, it may take longer.

It is a really, really, really, really bad idea to try and reschedule an AOS appointment if you will even be allowed to do it. In other cases where people have tried to reschedule it they have been told only in a matter of life and death. Work commitments, holiday plans, travel, etc. -none of these were held to be an acceptable reason to reschedule an AOS appointment. There have also been a number of VJers whose appointments were rescheduled by USCIS and then they later received denial notices for their failure to go to the inerviews even though they had supposedly been cancelled. I think you need to plan on doing whatever you can to attend the appointment.

Affidavits signed by friends/ family is not required at the AOS stage, rather the removal stage.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
