Here's the link to the story:

http://news.aol.com/article/obama-approval-ratings/578736

Summary of Approval Ratings by Category:

Healthcare: 49% (down from 53%)

Economy: 52% (down from 56%)

Federal Deficit: 43% (down from 48%)

Overall Approval Ratings: 59% (down from 65%)

What made me  were the approval numbers from people on AOL (which of course may change as more people take the poll):

Healthcare: 15%

Economy: 11%

Federal Deficit: 7%

Overall Approval Ratings: 16%

Analysis: Americans as a whole want results after 6 months in office. As for the AOL numbers its rather obvious that they are not representative of Americans as a whole (but probably match up pretty well with what one would expect on VJ). As a matter of fact this would be a good topic for a poll

See the problem is; at some point Obama had to be judged on more than his oratory skills.

Now he is actually doing things which effect the lives of people, that will naturally cost anyone polling points.

Yea I said before that after a year we should see start seeing results (good or bad). I guess the average American wants results sooner.

So, he's still looking at better numbers than Clinton or W did around this time of their presidency and is in the mainstream range where George H.W. Bush, Reagan, Nixon and Carter were at this piont. In recent history, there were really only two Presidents that fared significantly better in Q2 of their first year in office - Kennedy and Eisenhower. Neither of them was dealt as bad a hand as Obama.

Found your poll. If you get a mod to unlock it, then we can keep bumping it until we get some results.

To all the celebrating GOP folks: Remember that the Gipper didn't do much better. And he's somehow your hero. Oh well, 59% isn't the same as 59%, I suppose...

Circumstances are pretty similar too. Inflation and unemployment still climbed in Reagan's first couple years. In fact unemployment levels didn't return to Carter levels until re-electiom year (good thing)! Housing may be expensive now, but can you imagine a 20% interest rate? Yikes!

In terms of policy, I'd have to say I am extremely skeptical of Obama's approach, but judging just by time, you really cannot. The last time we were this deep in a recession it was a couple years before things were good, so sorry folks, its going to be a while. I do think people are less patient these days in general than they were 30 years ago though, so a prolonged recession isn't going to play well in the 2010 elections.

Yea my intent was to make the poll strictly a poll (no replies) but the 2nd order (unintended) effect was that it would be on page 5 in about 12 minutes due to all of the posting.
