Timeline

Hello everyone!

In my signature, you can see the timeline with our application. Me and my husband are planning on going to Ukraine for a vacation, and because of issues with my husband's job, the only time available for us is in September. But I really worry about booking the tickets, because I don't know if they are going to schedule our interview for the green card during September. I read on this forum that it is not a good idea to reschedule your interview, so I want to make sure that we are in the U.S.

So I wanted to see if any of you know how to find out when the interview is going to be, so we can plan our trip better. Any feedback will be highly appreciated!

My Timeline:

It is always possible that your application will be transferred to CSC and approved without an interview. There is really no way to predict when you will get an interview or even if you will get an interview. And no, it is not a good idea to try to re-schedule an interview. I don't know what to suggest about your holidays. It's a tough decision to make.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

There is no way to predict IF or WHEN your interview will be and you can call USCIS until you are blue in the face and will not find out.

It is not recommended to re-schedule the interview. It is definitely not recommended to MISS the interview which could happen if you are gone for an extended time.

Travel during the process is at your own considerable risk

While I offer no advice, I can sympathize.

We are wondering the same thing, as we want to plans a couple of summer trips.

It would be nice to know when the interview date is, or if we will be transfer to CSC without one.

We already had to change one trip because of the Biometrics appointment (we could have re-scheduled this, but I've heard of people having issues when they do, plus it would delay the EAD and AOS).

We avoided travel while waiting for the interview. It turns out that we could have gone, but I wasted 2 weeks in December sitting around the house because I have to take my time, but I didn't want to plan a trip that we would have to cancel. The risk is too great, there is no way to know when you will have the interview or you will get the interview notice.

Since it is dependent on the local office's schedule, it is impossible to tell....

YMMV

Like the others have said, there is no way to know. From the date your interview notice arrives to interview is about a month so you may take a trip between then. However I am more of the safe than sorry stock so my advice would be there will be time in future to travel, complete this process first. All the best!

I think you can follow the time line of others who filed around the same time as you, it would not be very accurate, but you will have a big picture.

Call the DOS everyday:

1-212-663-1225 option#1 then option #0

Tell them your 'case number' and they will tell you the current status of your visa application.

I called everyday afer I sent in my P3 and today they told me our interview date. So I expect the P4 will arrive any day now.

The longest I ever had to wait on 'hold' for someone to talk to was 3 minutes. Most of the time I talk to someone within the first minute.

They are very nice, so please please be very nice to them too. :)

I think the interview meant to be the AOS interview inside of US.

The Department of State deals with the visa interview. The USCIS takes care of Adjustment of Status (AOS), not to be confused with the I-134 or I-864 in the visa process.

Naturalization

3/27/14 - N400 package delivered

4/3/14 - NOA1 receipt date

4/4/14 - check cashed

04/29/14 - biometrics date

07/01/14 - interview date

xx/xx/xx - Oath Ceremony

Except she is asking about an AOS interview...not a consulate interview.
