thanks guys, my fiancee arrived LA yesterday. how can a registered nurse from Nigeria practice in usa. entered with K1 visa.

I would have no idea but if I was trying to find out I would contact a university or college admissions officer (at an institution that offers nursing) and ask them if the RN degree can transfer to the US and if the whole degree cannot transfer if even a portion of it can and what kind of upgrading or additional course work would be required to make it equivelent to the a US RN.

First, get married. Next, apply for her green card and employment authorization document.

Here are the steps to apply for a license and take the NCLEX:

I believe you need to start over by going to school. You will need to get your prior educational transcript transcribed to our accreditation system.

Look for your state's nursing board, call them/check its website for the requirements. Each state has different requirements for NCLEX-RN. Some of the states require the foreign educated nurses to pass CGFNS first. The process may take several months before she will be eligible for the test (education and license verifications from Nigeria, TOEFL/IELTS/English tests, etc). She may apply as the international nurse (only passport required) but since she is living in USA now, they will ask for her SSN. When she is going to apply for a job, most of the facilities will ask for the mandatory training/course :CPR. It would be better if she is preparing herself for the exam or taking the english test while waiting for her immigration status and NCLEX RN requirements.
