Good news at last!

Manuel called this morning. He has found a small store that is willing to let him use their phone! The store is 45 minutes from his home. Literally, thank God, we can finally talk again. We've set up certain times to talk and the store has said that if I call for him, they will send someone for him. Of course, for a fee. But, we are both very happy!

Thanks again guys for all of your support!!!

When my internet fails (which is more often then what my patience can handle) I write letters for my fiancé, to feel better. When I have around 4 or 5, I mail them for him, and he does the same, though I do write a lot more. The point is: in the end this makes some material proof of keeping in touch, and at the same time, relieves the pressure of missing someone and not beign able to be in contact for a few days. I believe you guys could try that, if his mail adress is not way too far away and in the end things would just be as difficult.

ya. we call every day. in US, 'free nights and weekends' on phones start at 9pm so after 9pm, we talk. thanks to recent decline in international calls, i pay 2 cents a minute and talk for around 30 minutes every day.

some of us are not lucky enough to have s/o that live in an area that supports cell phones or land lines all the time, my fiance lives and works in kashmir so i understand what she is talking about when she says that she can not always be in contact with im.

what i have started doing in the past year is i will send all the snail mail letters at one time after a month or so, and talk as much as we can on chat or on the phone, perviz works at a hospital in a remote area so phone is not always possiable

he also sends things by snail mail when he can.

there are a lot of different ways that u can show that u stay in touch just takes longer for it to get to ur s/o.

I don't really understand your question..... But, I am rather offended by the implication. 'Someone like him'?

Not all people have the 'comforts' we are fortunate enough to have.

The reason I am with him is because I love him. He is a wonderful person. Not because of what he has.....

Great response to a question that appears to be somewhat below the caliber of what one would like to read on VJ.

That's excellent about the helpful store. If you can find a way to send a note or a little gift to the proprietor, it will make a big hit... and likely ensure continuing helpfulness, si man!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Oh I am so glad you guys could work something out! I don't know what I would do if we couldn't talk almost every day. I think it is proof of real love the effort that he is making to find a way to stay in touch! Good luck on your journey.
