Tax rates and the never ending debate over what they should be is not what I asked about, I asked how does the tax-man taking more money make one a winner as you stated.

When you pay more sales tax do you feel like a winner?

Since different areas have higher property tax rates, should I try to buy in a higher taxed area so "I can be a winner"?

PLease stay on point.

I have never heard of low taxing counties having good schools or services.

Taxes pool a community's money together to provide services and fund projects that individuals would be not be able to perform on their own. How else do you think the military is funded? If it wasn't for taxes our military would not exist period. Maybe we should each build our own section of road outside our homes. You know, while I hate to say it I am starting to see why America has some of the worst roads and infrastructure in the developed world. Republicans are against building America. Apparently that is a waste of money, unlike blowing ###### up or paying 20 year old soldiers money to piss-fart around.

Republicans need to switch off talk radio and actually travel a little. Go to Australia and see pooled taxes and modern practices at work. Don't worry about some puny 2,000 year old European country. Come see what your younger conservative cousins have achieved over there by means of progressive business practices, reasonable taxes, community spirit and federalism / states rights. Or go see what China is building in their country. The Regan / farm days are gone. Time to move into the 21st century. Stick to conservative values, something we conservatives do in AUS, but promote modern and sound business practices. In both Public and private sectors.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

How does being bankrupted by healthcare costs make one a winner?

Why do you use an extra large condom as a shower cap?

Your logic is not only a stretch but baffling...... How does a family have a .2 billion loss in income.. and come out "a winner"?

You're right. Clearly someone earning $1 billion instead of $1.2 billion will be doing it tough. They have bills to pay right. Whereas a walmart worker on $6 an hour should be grateful for their job. My brother-in-law has similar logic. That 'what if' you earned the $1.2 billion. Dam straight what if. How many people in the south earn more than $60K let alone $1.2 billion?

I don't know what sort of voodoo spell the Repub party has on people earning under $80K but if I was earning less than $100K, no way in the world would I be rooting for republicans who are only promoting low pay. It's almost like cheering on the person in first place who cheated while coming in tenth place yourself. While I don't agree at all (as in zero) with UAW or NE style unions, I sure as heck don't agree with people being short changed.

Danno, explain how you have armed services, schools, fire and police protection and all of the myriad government services without taxes, then we can explain to you how by paying taxes you too can be a winner.

Don't keep dodging the question by living out your dream of eventually making a billion dollars and demanding we all back your anti-tax bologna because for some odd reason you want to be prepared to not pay taxes on the billion dollars you will never earn.

Oh Jeez, not more of this.

I never suggested people shouldn't pay taxes. Please quote a little of my "Anti-tax bologna".

I simply seized on the statement that someone, getting their taxes raised... is a "win" for them when they are already paying both in dollars and percentage of income more to start with.

It may (or may not) be necessary, but it is not a "win".

Look man, do me a favor and don't project onto me what you think I said, actually read my words.

Are we back on the "Australia is setting an example for the world" kick?

Look I'm sure it's a nice Island but it's not even in the same ball park as the USA, I would bet your population is not even 10% of ours and your economy I would bet is less than California's.

Sure you make a little more money working at McDonalds but at the end of the day, it's not enough to buy a house.

I don't doubt you guys might not have some ideas worth looking at on certain things but one we won't bother with is your concepts about empowering the federal Government beyond it's intended roll.

I think "time" has and will prove ours model better.

But then again, it's hard to even compare countries.

Slightly correct, but since you seemed to take offense at the concept that someone who made 1.2 billion dollars might actually pay 200 million in taxes as some sort of 'loss' then a logical person concludes that you don't believe in taxes.

Most folks would be tickled to get 1.2 billion dollars for just 200 million in taxes. Likely getting there using the myriad of wealthy tax dodges, since the income tax in that range is considerably above the roughly 18% tax range. At $372,950 income range the current income tax rate is 35% so yes, you would not be taking a loss, you would be getting off cheap.

If your assertion that paying .2 billion on 1.2 billion in earned income was some sort of unfair loss is any indication, you are against taxes. Not so much putting words in your mouth, but explaining how your words can be interpreted.

Actually, if Congress has their way, and the "poor" sap makes 1.2 billion, and lived in Oregon, he would be paying 720 million in combined Federal, state, and local taxes, leaving him around 480 million to spend on life's neccessities.
