I love it when someone resorts to name calling and shows how much they are wrong.

Not always but it's usually the same people who explode when we don't know everything about their private lives and expect us to change our outlook or be cowed. Some people come here angry and get more enraged no matter how justified they are and others are here for entertainment. They aren't the only people with issues and most of us know that they may face the same problems in the future but I try not to come here with an attitude and tear into everyone I disagree with.

If more people thought about their posts it might not make better posts but we'd be a little more civil.

True and I agree. I have never seen once anyone that resorted to name calling being right. They always lose at that point.

how is unemployment money welfare?? it is money you have earned while working...

Technically it's money paid on your behalf by your employer to an insurance fund, at least in California. But you do earn credits, by the amount of money you earned in a qualifing period.

Edit: Extensions, however, are another story.

Um no, that isn't it at all.

The problem isn't that you won't change your outlook or be cowed. The problem is that putting a name or a face on a problem that you are praying to God you don't have to face in this economy makes you uncomfortable. It's a whole lot easier for you to be self-righteous and condescending than it is to walk in someone else's shoes.

I'm not worried about being 'right'. I don't sit here trying to win battles in 'right-ness'.

I know what I believe in. I know what I believe a civilized society should do. If you don't like it, you can take a hike. It really doesn't mean diddly-squat to me.

Don't bother explaining it to them, Marilyn. They would never need it or take it! They can live off what the wifey earns. Or maybe a handout from Momma.

i applied for unemployment in texas from the move i made from europe to texas, and spent 6 weeks in texas unemployed until the start date of my current job. although i applied, i got zip from them.

I'm more worried about to trying sideline any criticism of Obama and his policies. I assume the government has already diminished Social Security before I collect a dollar and I know my kid will get will get stuck in a mediocre public school but I have enough savings (assuming inflation doesn't wipe it out) to survive without government assistance, I never made a lot of money but never had unemployment compensation or welfare despite bouts of unemployment. Like you I'd worry about myself and my family and stop hoping that somehow politicians will let the better angels of their nature assume control. Too many people can't save money and live without the extras and the govenment reflects that thinking.

I thought republicans were the ones promoting spending and not saving.

Government is not the problem, the people you put into government is. The notion that a corporation whose current (sole) purpose is to generate money for their shareholders is any better is erroneous. Especially not some blood sucking American corporation. Name one other successful nation that has been able to succeed by means of the each to their own or the every man for themselves approach? surely there should be a few. Unfortunately I am unable to find them or even one actually.

Repubs seem to have a huge misconception about the social policies of other nations. Big gov does not come tell people what to do or how to take care of them. That is communism and dictatorships and note the point of social democracies. What it does do is provide the opportunity and avenue for everyone to progress, rather than live in squalor. It allows someone who is unemployed to focus on improving their skills and getting a job rather than worrying about the next meal, healthcare or where they are going to sleep. It provides someone poor the opportunity to succeed in life.

Yes Obama is the root of all evil. Unlike the George W years when you guys simply shoveled the money in the bank.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
