Everyone knows how critical I am of the dilapidated state of the country. However, when I see the original (founding fathers) and the America they established, I see a lot of a nation I want to be apart of. I look back at history and see what made this country great. Ironically, I see a lot of the same drive and spirit the founding fathers had in present day Australia. That is, a common goal towards unity and the progression of the nation and its people.

Fast Forward to 2009. The two parties and their members personal lust for power and greed has screwed up the place. From ghetto's to crime cesspools. From poverty to broken families and dreams. Where the rich only give a ####### about themselves and their lives; even though a mile down the road people are living in third world like poverty. Is that what Republicans call country first?

Edited by haza

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

All I hear from Republicans is how we should lower tax for the rich, less government, more in military ($780,000,000,000 annually is clearly not enough) and basically opposition to any form of change (progress). That is what bankrupted this freagin country.

And here I thought it had something to do with bank failures and/or bailouts. Obviously we are both wrong, though. Can't be bankrupt if we're still writing checks!

Ok, why don't you tell me what YOU think a conservative is then. I mean, I told you what I think even though you buggered out on what you think.

Hard to take you seriously with nonsense about Christianity and capitalism are tied together by conservatives. In any case, you dropped that line of reasoning.

Traditional conservatives believe in a fiscally constrained government budget, pro-growth tax policies, less regulation, property rights, pro-defense, judicial restraint within Constitutional boundaries, personal responsibility. . .

Oh and you left out that one big thing I pointed out - health coverage. Free to my parents. Nothing out of their pockets to cover the entire family. No copays - no deductibles - no pre existing conditions. Because the employer could AFFORD to provide it for my Father's good days labor. I'll trade a car and a bunch of TV's for that anyday.

Sounds like your family didn't have it too rough. If you want to get health care go get it. I'm assuming you're now not poor enough to Medicaid but not wealthy to pay for health care Other than that its hard to figure out your point beyond a biography.

Where on earth you come up with the concept that consumerism drives outsourcing is beyond me. Who makes the decisions to shut factories? It isn't the consumer - it's the CEO.

Products that have no consumer demand or can be made cheaper drive consumer choice not the CEO. Have you ever been in a Walmart or been to China? A lot of U.S. businesses simply cannot compete with cheap labor and cheap transportation on container ships.

Modernization, mechanization, and technology have been changing the landscape of business for 150 years. But in the past you didn't see such reckless disregard for longevity of business in the name of today's profits.

Almost anything can be made anywhere in the world now. The idea of comparing the Industrial Revolution to today's market is out-of-date.

Bad decisions keep happening in the name of today's share prices. If American business continues to turn over and play dead in the name of 'globalization' there will come a time when not only will we have nothing to export, but we will have no citizens with any money to buy the imports.

Businesses that are short-sighted and can't survive shouldn't get bailed out by the govt. Even if a company is overseas some of the profits go the American owners and stockholders. Protectionism isn't a long-term solution.

You need to get it out of your head that the tax hikes the Tea Party participants cry about are some sort of stain on your liberties. In order to do that, you better check just exactly who it is that has been carving away at your ability to feed your family and put a roof over your head. It sure as hell isn't the US government save for the horribly egregious errors they have made in lavishing tax breaks on business owners with no one's best interest in mind save their own.

I'm more worried about to trying sideline any criticism of Obama and his policies. I assume the government has already diminished Social Security before I collect a dollar and I know my kid will get will get stuck in a mediocre public school but I have enough savings (assuming inflation doesn't wipe it out) to survive without government assistance, I never made a lot of money but never had unemployment compensation or welfare despite bouts of unemployment. Like you I'd worry about myself and my family and stop hoping that somehow politicians will let the better angels of their nature assume control. Too many people can't save money and live without the extras and the govenment reflects that thinking.

I am worried about myself and my family, nimrod. I've got an out-of-work husband with a progressive genetic illness and no freaking health insurance.

Oh - and he is drawing his unemployment by the way.

Go straight to hell and do not pass go.

nowhereman, i agree that our reps need to work together. but whats going on is just wrong. im happy the repubs are NOT coperating. that way when this ecomony falls flat broke, were do you think the fingers are going to point. its a smart move, and why should i be concerned about everyone elses finances. i work everyday to have nice things, i pay my bills and paid off 2 vehicles. i dont want to pay someone else's mortgage! i am not the one who signed on that dotted line at the bottom of there loan apps. if things get much worse ( hard to believe) i may cash in my ira and hit the road. let everyone else pay these crazy taxes and social programs. Alot of you posters on this topic with PH profiles , is hard to believe you can find a woman in PH , most if not all are VERY conservative and VERY religious. i wonder if your telling them about your socialist views.

That ending to your little soliloquy was pretty cheap. Good luck to you and your wonderful wife dude.

Oh, how did I miss that? Sounds like NVC went to looking specifically for a Filipina based on a stereotype. Filipinos may be religious, but that doesn't make them politically conservative. Sounds like he hasn't really spent a whole lot of time with Filipinos in general. I've got some old college Filipino friends that would shock him at their "commie liberal" political views. Good grief.

Sorry to hear that but with your attitude it's hard to care about your plight.

What happened to that book you were writing at the bottom of the thread? Decided it was easier to take a cheap shot?

Let's leave the name-calling behind. It adds nothing to the conversation and only provokes negative reactions.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
