After 7 weeks of living in hotels...WE GOT OUR HOUSE!!!! We closed today

Man, I sold my house June 2008...lived in a condo on a 1 year lease...left and vagabonded across the US down to FL and back....it was touch and go for a while, and it looked like the deal was going to fall through due to the mortgage co...and it finally happened...It feels soooooooooo good to be rooted!!!! I don't get back from the shore till Sunday and we will be living on air matresses till delivery of our stuff on Tuesday...but man it feels good!!!!!

My husband managed to get me added to all the utilities and health insurance this week...so it was a productive week...I also got my 1st bank account and added on to his credit card...i' finally starting to feel like i'm being recognized by the system lol!

We had such problems with the mortgage co...we went through 3 companies...their rules have become unreasonable due to the economy...they try to shift all the risk and burden on the buyer....we had such problems because of other properties we owned....they wanted more downpaymet (30% more!), letters from accountants...even letters from us promising to not buy more places or take out more credit....leters that we would maintain the road that our house is on (it's a private road leading up to our house)...crazy I tell ya!!!!!

It feels so amazing!!!!!

Just thought I would share with you guys, since you have been there for us through all of our major milestones!

I'm now interviewing for babysitters/nannies...I've never been without my mom in 35 years! lol...she helped raise my son since he was born...after my first divorce it was just the three of us...as a little family.... we are both having a hard time with it....she really misses my son and he misses her....I think she is a little hurt that we are trying to find help :( poor thing.... I tell ya, after all of my immigration stuff is done....I WANT MY MOMMY! lol...i'm gonna try to get her here...she has no one but me.

ok, thanks for listening to my rambling lol...

Congrats about your house!! Guess they do things a little different? I put my house up for sale the day I got back from Vancouver, ( June 25th). I had already signed the papers, prior to going, and listed the closing date as Aug. 17th, *I leave on the 18th*. My first offer, which I accepted, came in 4 days later, subject to inspection, which happened a week later, and the house was officially sold! Can't imagine what it would be like not knowing when you would be moving into a new home.

Glad it's all working out for you Poprocks. Bank accounts, credit cards, name on utilities...*he might make you pay them now..* That's what Tim keeps telling me anyways...

I'm so happy you guys got the house! So exciting, congrats! It will feel so good when you're all settled in.

I hear you on missing Mom :( I was in tears this morning, I feel SO homesick. My Mom and sister went to Midnight Madness in Oakville last night, the 3 of us always went. She called to say they had fun, but it wasn't the same without me. I burst into tears because I just want to be there, I just wish I had gone and went to dinner with them and had girl talk, it's so hard. My Mom lives alone too and she misses me alot. I just want to go over there today, have tea and see my Mom :crying:

Sorry to go off topic there LOL!! Can't wait to see pics of the house :)

Congrats on the house, and getting into the system!! lol :)

Good luck on everything else, and *hugs* to your mom. I've kind of been detached from my parents for a while, since they live an hour and a 1/2 away, which isn't far, but far enough to make weekly or daily get togethers impossible... but we still see each other at least once a month. I don't want to think about what it's going to be like to be so far away and go like 6 months between visits ! AAHH

Hi Poprocks,

Congratulations on your new house and for getting settled down here!

Hope you enjoy your new home, especially after waiting so long for it. As well, it's good that you got "in the system" this week, as believe me, you'll need all that financial information for the next stages of the immigration game. Start keeping and organizing the paperwork now, so you don't have to organize them later on! Oh and by the way, don't forget to file the AR-11 and I-865 to inform the USCIS about your move too.

Oh yeah, home closings are definitely crazy! Glad you got through that, despite all the trouble you had before.

Lol..speaking of which, we're in the midst of one too (hoping to have the final closing on August), and on top of that, we're having a baby next week (or earlier), and on top of that, I'm filing my N-400 afterwards in the next few weeks too...Yikes! Hopefully we'll be able to get through all this, like you did in your situations.

Aww...sorry that you miss home and your mom. Don't worry, you'll get a chance to visit her again and can keep in contact with each other in the meantime, especially that you live sort-of close to each other (T.O. and Philly aren't that far away, right?). And hope too, that you get a good nanny/babysitter for your child.

Good luck with the rest of your life and immigration journeys too.

Congrats on finally closing your house! Closing these days is becoming a nightmare, each time you think something is complete the lender will come back with a new condition.

Interviewing for babysitters and nannies will be tough esp if your Mom was taking care of your son before, we had a baby sitter for a while when the kids were infants and she was great, I miss her!!

Good luck with finding someone!

Awww, thanks guys. It's funny how we get so caught up in getting our Visa's and we get so excited to get here. Then when the dust settles and your emotions 'thaw' it really starts to set in....that you did it...and it's for good....and you start to think of the things you miss.

Don't get me wrong, I am entirely happy and wouldn't change it for the world....but it doesn't make the 'missing' easier :(

We did get a good phone plan and can call Canada for free...in the meantime, I have Skype and with my wireless card on my computer, I can talk to me mom whenever for free.... it's only like a $2 membership fee...Skype is great :)

Sprailines...I didn't see you at the beach today lol...we usually get up and hang around the house in the morning until the sun cools down a bit...then take the kids over to the beach...I prefer week days when it's a little quieter... it was really busy today.

I am so dreading the unpacking...anyone ever think...that it takes us months to pack all of our stuff, and then we try to unpack it all in a week? lol! And as good as you label the boxes...you never really know where anything is packed? lol... I'm trying to get someone in to help me...we are merging two house loads, and while my husband is at work, i'll have a 5 year old running around wanting to wrestle and play Star Wars :) lol..

Unpacking goes fairly quickly - you would be surprised at how your brain has already figured out where to put things. Storage is a problem in this 50 year old house. The closets are not very big, and I have always either had a basement or a storage rooom. Clear totes for my sewing materials and regular labelled totes for everything else. We bought an upright storage unit at Loew's for outside things that were taking up a whole closet inside.

I understand the missing of family completely. I am older (52) and my parents are both gone, but my youngest daughter (25) and I are exceptioanlly close. Having spent nearly everyday of her life together except for visits to the USA to see Carnell. I was so ready to come here to be with my husband, but not ready to leave!

Your mum can become a snowbird and visit you until such time as you can apply for her to come. It won't be the same as 24/7, but it is nice being from Canada - it makes things easier for cross border travel. Maybe it is time for her to get a NEXUS card so that travel will even be easier for her?

Good luck settling into your new home!

Janet

Hi Poprocks,

Congrats on the house, and like everyone else, can't wait to see pictures!!! I am still in Canada till August. My last day of work is August 20th. I am so worried about missing my family. Right now my niece who's 15 is in the ICU of the province's children's hospital. She was airlifted there a few days ago with an infection in her brain. I keep thinking, what if I was already gone, I wouldn't have been able to come home. Makes me sick to my stomach. Anyways I am rambling. I'm glad things are working out for you. Take care.

Congratulations on the house! I'm glad you're finally settling in. You were lucky for having your Mom so close for so long, but I'm sure you'll find someone wonderful to be with your son as well.
