Sharing is caring :D

Plus I am a firm believer in a woman have total control over her finances. When I say control I mean have her budget set, make sure the bills get paid properly, keeping an eye on her credit cards and credit rating and be familiar with investing. More and more women over the past few years have been paying more attention and by doing so getting themselves in an excellent financial position.

P.S. stay away from any Suze Orman books she's a little flaky. ;)

I find a lot of her advice to be sound... especially about having an 8 month emergency fund & her general emphasis on not purchasing things if you don't have enough in savings/retirement and if you have credit card debt.

Yes but you can get the same advice from any financial writer. Her claim to fame is that she is a woman in finance but she basically gives out the same information as everyone else. Plus to get that kind of information you don't need to buy a book you can look it up online. By doing that you just saved $14.99 on buying a book. Hehe

.......... my worry like someone else said is getting work, how soon can i start building this future i have dreamed about. its all mished mashed in there with money.

is anyone actually managing to save for thier big wedding ( as most of us are having two). i have scheduled mine for september of next year. thats it lol

tips???

Everybody in the US who is out of work is worried about finding it. Immigrants and citizens alike.

You have your whole lifetime to build your future. In fact, you will probably build it more than once because life has a way of handing out knock-backs now and then.

I'd suggest you not worry about people making 60K and above. It isn't everybody and it isn't all the time. And if it isn't you right now, so what? Can you afford the roof over your head? Are your other bills paid? Is there food in the cupboard? If so then you are good for now.

Oh - I'd pass on blowing money for a big wedding. Seriously. You are just as married standing in front of a judge as you are in front of 300 people while wearing a $2K dress. I suppose you might have always wanted that 'big' day and it was a dream also. Sometimes you have to pick which dream you want. What you blow on a big wedding can go a long way towards building a future.

thanks for the good advice, going over to women in red right now/

lol i hate big weddings. i meant a big day, kind of thing not spending lots of money. I am getting married twice, this week and next year. this is primarily because my family and his have yet to meet one another. all i have planned is something small in a family members back garden ( which has a lake, lush) an exchange of vows, lots of drinking and good food. its not gonna be anything plush in that sense........... but i have to save for the food and the decorations, not much else. we have a friend doing the ceremony and we arent going to pay for the actual grounds so its just getting the whole money for tables and chairs, possible tent and such. i dont believe in spending lots of money on weddings, at all.

my mother gave me some great advice before i got on the plane, she said except in cases where the husband is abusive, in everything you do take time to do, if you have to rush it think twice.

going to women in red......................

I don't know how big of a wedding your going to have next year, but if you have the time I would check out a site called do it yourself wedding. They have some great tips and if you are not having over 50 people you may be able to do some of the things yourself and save a handful of cash.

HUllo,

just moved to michigan , getting married next week(or thereabouts). As i read through some of the forum topics i see that quite alot of folk state how much they make, often in the 40 k - 60 k or more region. some even make that much when in England. Which is cool. Now is it me or does that seem weird.??? nonetheless i made between 20 - 25 k in england as an adult ed teacher, had to use most of my money to get this thing rolling because my lovely hubby was setting up a new business. Does anyone here have any advice as to how to navigate this move, living on LIMITED FUNDS???????? All the rockerfella's need not apply

lol

Don't have kids-- It'll save loads of cash

I would like to try to quantify the amount of money people lost following Suze Orman's advice over the last year or two.

I recall how time after time she advised people to keep putting money into their 401Ks and NEVER to pull it out. I am sure those people won't be writing her a letter any time soon to find out how to get back out of the mess they are now in.

To be fair Orman does have a lot of common sense tips but she should stay away from giving advice that relates to the markets...

I'm always amazed when I see Suze Orman about how someone became a big celebrity dispensing what I thought was pretty obvious common sense advice, i.e. don't spend more than you earn, put some money away for a rainy day, save for your retirement, etc etc etc

But then it's also pretty amazing how many people lack basic common sense, especially when it comes to money

You just get a place to live that's cheap and don't buy a lot of stuff.

Ding Ding Ding!

Live in your means, don't buy the latest thing, and you should do ok.

Living BENEATH one's means is actually the secret.

Living the life of a Frugalista gets you thru ANY economic meltdown

Yeppers. That's what husband always tells me. Live within your means. We buy only things that we need.

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

She only became a big celebrity after her books were published. She only became a celebrity by taking common financial advice from both men and women in the field and then specifically marketing her book toward women.

To quote rebeccajo above "Suze Orman's first book isn't called "Suze Orman's Financial Freedom" for nothing, you know.............."

It's absolutely true.

Suze Orman is a flake. There are thousands of women who have gotten "financial freedom" and they didn't publish a book about it. The only smart thing she did was make a buck out of writing a book geared toward women.

Like I said in a previous post you can get the same information in her book online for FREE. :)

How ya like my financial freedom now Suze hehehehe
