How long does it take to get you SS Card?

On the visa application Form DS-230 (expires 7/31/2007), you saw the following offer:

"Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card."

I checked yes for my husband to receive a SSN, so I am just wondering how long will it take for my husband to receive his SS card?

If it has not arrived within 3 - 4 weeks of his entry, then go to your local SSA office and request one, they will be able to check if one has been assigned and if not they will get one set-up for him. Just remember to take his passport with the visa in it.

I've been in the US now for a month, no SSN card as of yet. I'm going to the SSN office on Tuesday to have one issued.

Yes you are rushing it.... if he arrived only 3 days ago they will not even have his details entered into the system yet. The brown envelope has to be sent to USCIS and then all the details input into the system. SSA use the SAVE system to verify immigration status before they will issue a SSN you have to give USCIS some time to input the info.

I took my husband to SS office the next day after POE. Like the VJ members said above, they did not have his information in the system. We just filled out a form and she added some stuff in the computer. Exactly 2 weeks later, we received his SS card in the mail.

I went exactly 3 weeks after my POE. The staff there said they advised a 3 week wait before applying so lucky for me I choose the right day to go! They took my application (this was a Tuesday) and I received the card the following Monday.

Personally I think checking the box on the DS-230 is useless.

I checked that box on the DS-230 form also and got my ssn in exactly two weeks after POE. I was also worried and calledthe SSN office and USCIS but they told me to wait until Aug. 2 as that day will be a month but when i got home it was in the mail box. I was so happy. No GC yet though.

I hope you will get yours soon. Just wait another week atleast.
