PR and Drivers License Enough For Mexico?

Does anyone know if the combo of a PR card and a driver's license is enough to fly to mexico and back?

i've searched around and found out that UCS need a birth certificate and a state-issued ID such as a driver's license for re-entry into the United States from Mexico if they do not have a passport.

my overseas passport expired and i am unable to procure a new one for the time being

I always need to show my passport when I fly to Mexico and I fly there about once every six to eight weeks. Maybe someone knows different by I believe you need a passport.

you don't necessarily need a passport, but the State Dept. highly recommends it!!! See the following excerpt from their website:

Returning to the United States – Caution!

Make certain that you can return to the United States with the proof of citizenship that you take with you. Although some countries may allow you to enter with only a birth certificate, U.S. law requires that you document both your U.S. citizenship and identity when you re-enter the United States.

The best document to prove your U.S. citizenship is a valid U.S. passport. Other documents that establish U.S. citizenship include an expired U.S. passport, a certified copy of your birth certificate, a Certificate of Naturalization, a Certificate of Citizenship, or a Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. citizen. To prove your identity, either a valid driver's license or a government identification card with a photo is acceptable.

The following frequently-cited documents are NOT sufficient proof to enter the United States: US driver's license alone, Social Security Card, US military ID, a non-certified photocopy of a US birth certificate, a notarized Affidavit of Citizenship signed at the airport in the U.S., or even a voter's registration card. Travelers with only these documents may not be able to enter the U.S.

Because of these penalties, most airlines will not board anyone – including probable U.S. citizens – without proof of citizenship and identity.

I would not take the chance of travelling without passport and green card...

I just got back from Cancun on Thursday, and they wouldn't let anyone on the plane from the US side unless you had a valid passport in addition to the greencard. Also, they mentioned that Mexican officials have started being a lot more picky about what they allow.

If I were you, I'd contact the mexican consulate and ask them if you can take an expired passport. My guess is they'll say you can't go, but it's worth a shot..
