Hi, everyone!!!!!

May you tell me what you did next when you got in the USA????

I have a SSN, I should change it???

When did you apply for employment authorization? I heard that some airports give it out at the port of entry, right? I didn't get anything. Is it ok? Or we should talk to somebody?

Thank you, guys, in advance))))))

I will appreciate any answers you'll give)))))

Welcome Katia!

Hi, everyone!!!!!

May you tell me what you did next when you got in the USA????

Best place for you and your spouse to start is the Adjustment of Status guide, here. It's going to answer most of your questions.

I have a SSN, I should change it???

No reason you should have to change your SSN. In fact, I'm not even sure it's possible.

When did you apply for employment authorization? I heard that some airports give it out at the port of entry, right? I didn't get anything. Is it ok? Or we should talk to somebody?

You'll file for employment authorization when you apply for Adjustment of Status. Only one airport gives out temporary work authorization (New York I think?) but it's only a temporary permit. If you didn't get one, the only way you can get work authorization is to apply for it. Follow the guide I linked, and ask any specific questions you have here.

Best of luck to you!

If they cancelled issuing them at POE, is it possible to get one with a K-1 now? Or, are they just going to have to sit on the couch for their first six months or so?

Yep, there's no other option than to sit on the couch for 6 months. Although weren't the work permits at POE only good for 30 days? If so, they seem kinda worthless to me, since it takes at least a week or so to settle in, another couple weeks to find one in a good economy, and then...."ohhh, so sorry, looks like we're gonna have to let you go."

The only PEO that gives employment authorization is the JFK airport.

No EAD's at the airport for K1 visa holders as of March 2009.

Oh, this is good info --- because something tells me the question will arise again :P

That's why we keep telling people there's no need to visit any other forum, especially the K1 forums. The Russian RUB forum has all the info you will ever need! :D

weren't the work permits at POE only good for 30 days?

They were good for as long as the I-94 was valid.

The EAD will be issued within 90 days after you apply. Not six months.

OK, so let me get this straight... she comes here, adjusts for a little while, hangs out for a bit and then you get married. Then you apply for EAD and then it's sent (via snail mail) to your house.

How many months of sitting on the couch is that??????????

When you apply for Adjustment of Status (AoS) you can also apply (no additional charge) for Employment Authorization (EAD) and Advance Parole (AP).

And that's how many months of sitting on the couch before she gets a job??????????

Probably 3-4 months of "sitting on the couch".

I got my employment authorization at JFK when i came last year but it lasted only 90 days so i still had to apply for EAC. Didn't know they stopped issuing employment authorizations at JFK.
