It is for James Bond or Indiana Jones - there are lines in those films to the effect of "this is the only insurance policy I'll ever need".

At the moment - yes.

But there's always the possibility of a natural disaster or a terror attack which could

leave city residents on their own for many days without essential services. Just imagine

a total power blackout, no 911, no running water, banks closed, supermarkets empty,

looting, rioting and anarchy. I don't know about you, but I don't want to find myself

defenseless in a situation like this.

Well we seem to have successfully wandered off the beaten track of reality. Just out of curiosity Mark what training do you regularly undertake in order to ensure that owning a gun actually gives you more than a marginal advantage if such an unlikely event were to take place?

For the most part people help other people to survive, not top them off in a bizarre attempt to be the last man alive on the island. I have enough supplies to survive for two weeks. The official nyc.gov guide recommends at least three days.

No panic room, but I do have a gas mask.

Well its ridiculous isn't it - how can anyone argue that on the one hand that Manhattan is safe enough to walk around without fear of being the victim of a violent crime, and that presumably the only practical purpose in owning a gun there is to defend property from a next to non-existent chance of a home invasion (quadruply so if you live in an apartment complex) or in the event of a wholesale breakdown of society.
