Hi everyone :-) I'm new and about to send off my petition for my UK husband and would like to know if you all sent in relationship proof with your cover letters? I have a checklist from Frankfurt Consulate and that is not on it, but if it speeds things along, we want to do everything we can :-) Also, do you guys know if it is generally quicker to hand in your I-130 in person?

You might call your embassy to see if you can drop it off in person. The embassy in Ankara won't allow me to drop my packet off in person. They only accept the packets from UPS. I'm going to go ahead and include some pictures and other evidence we live together with my cover letter and documents. I think it is always better to send too much rather than too little.

Hello,

Folks in London have their own special procedure, so you'll want to use their checklist:

Instructions for Filing an I-130with the U.S.C.I.S. office in London

Note the special checklists in the right hand menu.

They do one thing that bugs me forever.. the I-130 instructions specifically ask for separate evidence of the marriage, but London specifically says 'don't you dare send one thing not listed on this sheet!'. Then they turn around and ask *some* people (no real pattern) to provide... extra evidence of the marriage!

There's not really anything you can do about that but follow their rules. They've been running very fast lately too!

You will be first dealing with the USCIS office in London; after approval your case is sent over to the Consular section for regular visa processing. You can't do any of the I-130 in person; London is a very busy USCIS office.

Follow the guidelines on the London website and you should be good to go. Average processing time is 5 months end to end, but I've seen a couple recently that completed in 3 months (don't bank on that, it's just info).

Make sure the UKC has a long form birth cert with both parents' names; that one has caught a few people out lately. And be sure to include ample evidence with the I-130 that the UK is your primary residence, so that they will accept your petition.

have fun!

British humor in action maybe. :P
