Yes he will have to go through immigration and customs at JFK.

Then on to LAX. He won't have to hassle with taking his luggage to his next flight. He can just drop it off after customs.

They don't care where he's going after he gets off the plane. The customs stuff is just to get in the country after that he can go wherever he wants. He will have to take his luggage before he goes through customs and then bring them to the airline and re-check in for his flight to LAX. Just so he doesn't forget to get the bags!

Sarah,

We went through all this too when my husband was coming over.

The only direct flight from Morocco to the States is with RAM. My husband chose this so he would not have to worry about dealing with another foreign country on his first ever flight. It might be something you need to consider too.

His time at immigration was around 2 hours.

Best wishes on a hopefully speedy reunion!

How come it took 2 hours? Was the line long or did they search him and ask tons of questions? Just wondering! Thanks!

A k1 is not an immigrant visa it is a non-immigrant visa. Try explaining that, lie to them - tell them you've spoken with the case officers in Casa, or in the US here and they said he may enter on either ticket (which is true). Threaten to go to another airline. I would try those first ;)

If the ticket is good for like a year or something then just get it .... I know you will be back before a year is up.... or make the return date a year from now.... I wonder if that would work??

I am so frustrated. Hicham just wouldn't tell the lady she is wrong and so he ended up paying 500 dollars more for a round trip ticket for August 2nd. Thanks for your help. I am so mad they wouldn't let him buy a one way ticket.

My husband went to travel agent in his town who booked the one way ticket for him.

As for two hours at immigration...it just depends on how many people are in line in front of you! He said the actual time with the officer was maybe 10-15 minutes. They ask for the paperwork they gave him on the plane and his passport. They verify where you are going to be (address, etc.). Then explain you have 90 days to get married and filing for AOS. They also mention this is a one-time entry visa.

I didn't think I would be calling the Consulate again, but I did to ask if there was something he was supposed to have in order to buy a plane ticket. She said we cannot help you bye now.

Well Hicham has the ticket he'll be here on Aug 2nd at 11:57 pm at LAX.

For those of you who your fiances/husbands don't speak English... how was their trip? I'm worried about Hicham switching planes in NY.

Amed came in through JFK. I e-mailed him a note of English phrases to use, and the kinds of questions they might ask him, and how to respond. And of course, to ask for the "employment authorization document." I also explained to him about changing planes and taking his luggage with him. He thought I was being silly for worrying so much, as he has travelled before.

Amed had no problems going through customs. He was in and out in 5 minutes. Of course, he came in on a plane through Frankfurt on Lufthansa, so most of the people were either Americans, or coming through on the VWP.

His ticket only cost about $700 from Algiers-Frankfurt and then Frankfurt-JFK, and it was round-trip. I bought the ticket from JFK to Charleston and got an e-ticket and e-mailed it to him.

Ok thanks, I was thinking about giving him a list of words and phrases he will need there... that's a good idea. Thanks for the info!
