Hi all,

Thanks again for all of your congratulations and kind words.

Hicham went down to Royal Air Maroc today to see about tickets. The woman told him that she wasn't too familiar with a K-1 visa but that for all visas other than immigrant visas he has to buy a round trip ticket. I thought that he could buy a one way ticket? I am sure that others have gotten a one way ticket. He is of course very worried now that they will not let him on the plane with a one way ticket and will not let him through customs at JFK.

What did those of you coming on a K-1 do? The one way ticket is cheaper and he is coming to live here so I see no reason to buy a two way ticket.

Also, for those of you who came through JFK how was customs? Did they ask lots of questions? I told Hicham to get a 5 hour lay over.

So what do you think a one way ticket? I am sure that it's possible. He is worried that they are not familiar with this visa and will not let him through.

This won't answer your question, but when I was anxious that my love would be here in August I was checking prices online. I had actually found a ticket for both ways that was cheaper than a one way. I used this link:

Wish I could tell you more.

Tamer came through on a one way and had no questions about it at the POE, although he got the same run around with the travel agenty. Although K-1 is technically a non immigrant visa, it's generally known (at least to POE officers) that the person WILL be adjusting status and becoming an immigrant.

Rachid came through JFK with a one way ticket and the customs were no problem... but he found a good price from casa to ind and I picked him up there.... I live in Kansas City so the 7 hour drive back was so much fun to just spend time with him and talk....

He can buy either one - usually a round trip ticket is cheaper. My husband came on a round trip on Iberia in January. He was questioned briefly at JFK, less than an hour. So tell him to get whatevers cheapest, it really makes no difference. I think the round trip was about $700 and the one way was well over $1000. RAM was more expensive. It also makes no difference if he must stop in Europe first. Youssef had a layover in Madrid.

p.s. I got the round trip a) because it was cheaper and B) so that if something were to turn up or go wrong god forbid he knew there was a return trip possible. We didn't need it but I think it gave him some peace of mind. We didn't use the other half anyway ;) lol.

Tamer also came on Iberia and didn't have any complaints, except it was a little difficult to communicate in Madrid, but he did eventually find someone who spoke english. Does Hicham speak spanish? If you do check out Iberia, check and see if they have attendants on the flight who speak french (cause if I remember correctly, you guys speak french together right?)

Hicham speaks French and Arabic and a little English... but I'm pretty sure he is going to be completely overwhelmed at JFK. I am thinking of going to meet him there and returning with him to LAX. I found a flight for about 300 dollars with Delta, which is what he will get when he buys through Royal Air Maroc. He doesn't speak Spanish. oh well.

First of all, congrats! I didn't post - you don't know me and i saw lots of ppl telling you how happy they were. I'm sure you know that ppl who didn't write are still happy for you too!

Your question about tickets: I'm sure you can get one way. Try going to www.royalairmoroc.com (the site doesn't always work, but if u get the ticket online, it could be cheaper! I used them 3 times and avoided London and whatnot, since I had a terrible time in London 1st time.) Just an advice, if you find something cheaper, don't forget to mention it here, just in case. (knock on wood)

About customs - I'm a citizen (a few years already). Didn't have problems in JFK but did have a lot of problems in other places fisrst time with Henna on my hands when i was dressed like everybody else (no head coverings or anything like that), so i preffer JFK after that.

Good luck and congrats again!

Hi Sarah,

Abdou came through JFK with a one way from Casablanca. I actually decided to purchase the ticket directly from RAM and he picked it up in Casa. We found that to be less expensive. Abdou was in customs for a little less than 2 hours. He said he had no problem and they were all quite nice. I liked the idea of his just having the one flight and I drove the 9 hours to pick him up as any flight connection to Ohio was only a 2 hour lay over and we found he probably would have missed it. If Hicham is interested in the temporary EAD, they issue it through JFK. I highly recommend JFK via RAM. I'm sure Abdou would suggest the same to Hicham if he could get online to chat, lol. He does send his best wishes to you both. We paid less than $700 for his ticket but that was in 6/05. Good Luck! We are so excited for you both.

Hi here is my newest question.

Here's what I think we will do-

Hicham will buy his ticket from CMN To JFK and I will meet him at JFK and we will fly to LAX together. I want to buy my ticket from LAX to JFK and back and also a ticket for hicham from JFK to LAX. That's ok right? If he goes through Customs saying he is going to LAX but doesn't have his ticket on him will this be a problem? I will be there with his ticket.... anyone know

Thanks,

Sarah

Just a suggestion...why not get him the ticket all the way to LAX...that covers his luggage as well as immigration and customs. Once his clears immigration he goes on to customs then his luggage will follow him to LAX.

The immigration wait at JFK can be a long one. I have flown into JFK now 4 times and the number of people going through the non citizen line is huge. I flew RAM each time from CMN. I wonder if it is different coming through another county like France or Spain since most of the people using CMN are non immigrants I think? Just some thoughts from me... :D

I understand.. thanks for the help.

If he does do what I had mentioned though, won't customs be done at JFK? Why would he have to go through it again at LAX if it's a domestic flight?

Sarah
