G'morning MENA.

Today is court again. It is sentencing day. Pray the judge does the right thing. The maximum sentence in Illinois is 14 years. I hope he gets all 14.

The mans previous charges: In 2004 he was arrested for DUI-driving on a suspended license and speeding. Pleaded guilty and paid fines. He was arrested again in 2005 for improper lane usage and speeding. Pleaded guilty and paid fines.

Then in 2008 ~~his current charges are

Aggravated DUI with death

Aggravated DUI with bodily harm

Reckless Homicide DUI

jJ (F)

I knew something was making me come to VJ today. Please please please let me know how it turns out NO MATTER what the outcome.

I hope he gets the maximum sentence and bubba takes him over!!!!

Sorry I don't mean to sound ignorant but obviously something happened to someone that Jackie loves. Do you mind sharing the story?

We lost a very very good friend and member of MENA here in VJ to a drunk driver last year. His sentencing is today. It has been a long wait. Just pray that God sends him in the proper direction no matter what happens ensha'allah.

If I share too much more right now, I'll cry. I am at work so that's not feasable. Maybe one of the other girls can explain more?

The 5 small 'in memory of" and "in support of" pictures in my sig..... the 2nd one with purple flowers and purple candles is for the one we lost.

It's an older press release but I saw a lady at our local Ikea w/ one on so it made me google it... and perhaps this has been posted before but wow, pretty darn cool. To bad FedEx didn't jump on that years ago, they could have avoided their horrific lawsuits and shown their employees how much they cared! (F)

Good afternoon.....good to *see* you amal !

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

That was me last week when the a/c was broken. Hey maybe you know...Do they have plain tortilla chips here in Egypt?

I don't know. Carrefour has a Mexican food section (complete with hard shell tacos) so you might want to check there.

Here's one for you, Olivia. I was so excited because I found a Mexican restaurant out on one of my walks. The next time I saw it my husband was with me, so we went inside to check it out. There was NOTHING Mexican about the place but the name. I was so disappointed.

Olivia, it's not that hard to make tortillas, and chips are nothing but sliced up and fried tortillas. Maybe you could give that a try if you don't have any luck at a western-ish type of food place.

Ah yes homemade are always the best. I had to search womeg for tortilla chips and came up with tortilla's being sold here. Now to just find them. Otherwise I can make my own but that would require corn meal and masa. I could do the flour ones but it's not the same. I wish I thought of this before and brought my own and a tortilla press. I (L) chips and salsa. On that note do they have jalapeños here? I haven't seen the serrano pepper at any of the markets yet.

I was trying to think of a way to bring my favorite mexican foods with me... I decided that i could bring the meat seasoning packets with me for fajitas and tacos and then just eat them with pita... everything else for them is pretty much available, if i made the salsa from scratch. though i was trying to figure out how i could make enchiladas and started thinking of bringing a package of flour tortillas with me :P I have such a hard time making food when i'm there between the combination of not being able to find necessary ingredients, and realizing how much i rely on canned/packaged/etc foods.

Another continuence. Today the killers lawyers (3 of them) tried to get the DUI charges quashed. All of the charges involve the DUI.

Here is a recap of court. They lead in the killer (wearing a fashionably orange jumpsuit) and the first witness to call is a Illinois State trooper. The trooper testified that the defendant suffered a small cut on his hand and was taken to the hospital on a stretcher. ok.....then they asked "EXACTLY what time did they do a blood draw for alcohol." His level 2 hours AFTER the crash was .391 ~~ 5 times the legal limit! They didnt arrest him or read him his rights cuz he was too drunk. At 7pm (crash was at 11am) he was still .225....still over the limit. Then he was officially arrested.

The lawyer made it sound like his poor client was being detained for a cut finger and not read his rights. The trooper testified that he had a 750ml bottle of Smirnoff Premium, opened and 1/2 empty in the car. The lawyer asked if the contents were tested. GIVE ME A BREAK!

So after an hour and a half of trooper talk...the judge said...he would not throw out the DUI but now the hospital has to come give their version of why he was held for so long.....well in my opinion he was still too flippin drunk to get off the damn bed!

In August there will be a short 1 min thing involving the hospital...maybe more will happen in September. So thats my update.

When I went to Egypt I brought my own taco season mix and taco shells. Then when we went to carfour we found all the stuff there, but it cost so much. I do know they have fritoes so maybe they have the other chips. Maybe even the metro might have them too.

Humm...let's see...coz he was maybe too freakin' drunk to move??? and hmm..he KILLED ONE OF THE SWEETEST WOMEN ALIVE!!!??? IS that not enough to make sure they wait so that he understands his rights? HTH can they continue this! The lawyers want it thrown out??when he killed someone on his 3rd offense!!!??? wft are they thinking!!!!!!!!

I wish I could go up there and pummel his butt! AND his laywers!

*steps off soap box and quietly goes back to her corner*

Thank you jax for the update.

It is super hard to sit 10 feet from this man and not be able to tell him how his actions affected so many people. I want him to at least seem somewhat remorseful for what he did.

The lawyer claims his clients rights were violated because the hospital held him too long for a cut finger, and the police were negligent in not reading him his rights right away. Well, duh, would he have even understood his rights? He was fairly pickled on Smirnoff Premium.

This man has been locked up for over a year, is receiving FREE medical care for his alcohol-damaged liver, free room and board and 3 meals a day. He is getting credit for time served in a cush-county jail. I say....let's get him over to a real lockup and let him experience some prison time.
