Server Upgrades (Back End) Complete

I have updated the server to a NEW operating system (different more secure version of Linux). If anything is not working let me know. The forum search should be back now.

Planned upgrades in the next 1-2 month time frame:

Upgrade our database to a newer version (no rush as the current one is still being supported my mysql) -- 1 hour downtime a AM hours

Upgrade the forums to the latest version (big upgrade) -- the switch to this should have very little downtime

Bottom line: Today's upgrades were the largest upgrades of the server / software we have had in probably 3-4 years. The down time this morning was unexpected but the downtime tonight was planned (although longer than we thought). My choice was that I decided with the issues today I would rather get the "dirty" done sooner than later and not have any further down time dragged out over other days. We should be stable and good to go (and more secure and faster due to the new OS).

Thanks for the patience everyone! Leave comments here if you find something not working.

This is a gracious remark (totally in character) and a candid explanation from someone who is always vigilant toward technical and interpersonal matters, and who uncomplainingly dedicates what is likely 99.44% of his time and life to the well-being of VJ and its many members. All hail, o intrepid Admiral, si man! (We CAN promote you in rank, si man, or does that come only after the Pitcairn Island subforum is established?)

I regret having to retract everything above, because I am emotionally crushed at having missed the planned downtime for 30 min. at 8:25 p.m. Can we please have a replay so that I and others can participate, this time? Everyone deserves a second chance, right man?

This morning when I was logging on, it was giving me the option to download the index.php file - I had cleared my cookies and Cache - but that sounds like a potential issue, cause if someone can get to your php they can do damage to the board...

My guess is that (hopefully) this is the first time you were back at VJ since yesterday with that PC. Yesterday mornings issue would have caused this and subsequently required a hard refresh with your browser to fix. Today everything I hope is working right. All indications show a speedy server right now.

Did you try a hard refresh?

You have to do more than clear your cookies. You have to clear your cache. Restart the browser after.

Was typing quickly, did all that - I have an IPB board too, so I understand the bugs and issues

Did you try a different browser on the same PC?
