This visa process can become quite draining as most of you know :(

My fiance interviewed at the US Embassy in London on May 12 for his K-1 visa. At the time of the interview, he did not have his passport with him (details in profile), so he was issued a 221G request for Additional Documents specifically just for his passport. My fiance was able to send his passport in to the embassy on June 12, which he did, and the US Embassy in London put my fiance's passport in their system on June 15. DOS told us that the embassy put his passport in their system. I specifically asked about whether my fiance is on Admin Processing or Admin Review or Security Checks in Washington, D.C., and I was told NO, he is not in any security checks or Admin Processing or Admin Review, just that his case is pending. So I naturally thought that he is under some standard processing prior to his visa being issued. Today it has been 1 month since the US Embassy in London has logged my fiance's passport into their system, but the visa has not been issued yet. I call DOS everyday and I am being told everyday that he is not in any type of checks or AP/AR, just that his case is pending, and it should be soon that his visa is printed. My mind is racing constantly trying to figure out what the delay could be if it is not AP/AR/security checks, what is the reason for the delay? Also, the embassy has kept the passport, so I guess that is a good sign, but my fiance's student visa in London expires in November, I don't know how long this delay is going to take, in fact, I don't even know the reason for the delay of his visa printing! Can someone please give me some direction on what could be a possible reason for this type of delay such as the one we are experiencing? :help:

The delay is simple, your fiance didn't takje his passport with him to the interview as expected.

So you will have to wait and see what is happening.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Such words of comfort & support!

So sorry that you are still waiting Marm. I know how hard it is to wait & not know whats going on. Have you tried the extortion line? I don't know if they'd be able to tell you anything more but it might be worth a try??

You shouldn't have to wait much longer Even if you were in AP, it's usually a 30 day process in London, right?

Good Luck. :star:

When I went to the embassy for my interview I was issued with a 221g for additional documents.I needed to alter my name by deed poll so my birth certificate matched my passport and I needed to send more photographs, once I had the additional documents I returned them along with my passport by courier. I paid for the courier to return my passport when ready and recieved both passport and visa within a week.I'm not sure if this will help just giving an example of my experience.

:) Thanks for the support MonkeyJuice, it really means a lot to us! Yes, we have tried the extortion line and they were able to give us the email code so we have emailed London on Monday (July 13) and of course got the standard reply that we should be getting a response within 3-4 days (so by tomorrow, hopefully). As far as AP in London, yeah it is usually a 30 day process but there have been longer cases, BUT, the thing is that we are NOT on any sort of AP, as specifically explained by the DOS representatives. Whenever I call to inquire about our status, they tell us that his visa printing is pending at the embassy. And then I specifically ask, "Is he in security checks? Administrative Review? Administrative Processing?" and I always get the answer, "No, he is not in any security check, or administrative review/processing. His visa is just pending at the embassy." So we don't know what to make of this statement. But hopefully London will have a more specific answer to our questions.

@ puppies: thanks for the info, yeah it is usually a 1 week, at the most 2 week turnaround in London for visa printing once you submit the additional documents required.

So this is a good thing...you are not in AP & you are doing the best thing by "investigating your case' constantly. Keep on it & I'm positive you will get your result.

It won't be long now..you'll probably have the same time line as us & believe me, it's defo worth it in the end. (F)

MonkeyJuice, you two had to endure a year long wait to end this nightmarish visa journey...a fact that gives us a lot of support that we are not alone waiting so long. Of course, saying that its worth it in the end, is an understatement, I am sure you agree

Thanks for your support DairyFarmer...the most frustrating part of this whole thing is that we don't know the reason for the delay. DOS keeps telling us that the visa is not in Admin processing, not in security checks, not in Admin Review. We even emailed the US Embassy in London asking about what the reason for the delay is. But we emailed them on Monday and today is Friday and we still have not gotten a reply yet. We don't know where to move on from here regarding finding out why the reason for the delay.

We got our Congressman to ask the question after 5 weeks as to what the delay was and pow he was given a same day response and my visa was issued. It maybe worth a try, you can submit the request through the congress website. Ours got back to us the day after the request was submitted.

Thanks! We reach the end of our 5th week mark by next week, so if we don't know anything by then, I will be contacting my Congressman right away.
