Anyone do pilates or own a pilated video tape?

Is it good? How much room do you need to do it? Would a small living room suffice?

Is it worth it??

THanks :)

I used to do pilates tapes with my roomies in college and loved it, but I've gotten lazy about it lately! Anyways, we managed to squeeze 3 girls into a decent size living area to do the workout and sometimes it was a little tight, but it worked out for us.

I have done Pilates for 4 years and highly recommend it, especially if you have any back or joint problems. I have a DVD but I got it in the UK, as a guide you want to be looking for classic pilates.

As for space you just need a mat and enough room to move on and around it, so a small space is all that is needed.

I hate trends, but my sister recommended Pilates to me and she's not a band-wagon jumper either so I figured I'd give it a try. I have a small living room and bought Pilates for Dummies DVD. It's seriously fantastic. I'm the least athletic person you can possibly imagine (they put me in remedial gym class in high school—no, really, they did) and even I could do most of it the first way through, and I started seeing a difference in about 2 weeks (it will make you heavier but thinner, because it builds muscles). And the instructor is great. I stopped when the semester got hectic and now we're in the middle of moving, but I'm looking forward to getting back to it.

I'm given to understand it's better to do it in a class, but thirteen years of being humiliated in gym class means I won't take a class until I'm a lot better at it.

Ive been doing pilates for a while..as said before, all you need is a mat and the room to move about on it..I used to do yoga and pilates but just do pilates now..you notice a difference fairly quickly..3 or 4 weeks..I guess it all depends which dvd you get..some are more advanced than others (although advanced doesnt always mean better)..the dvd I have has a 10 min full body work out and 3 x 10 mins workouts for specific parts of the body (butt, tummy etc)..which is handy if you are in a rush..I agree with sparkofcreation, I would love to do it in a class, but not yet..my balance still isnt great and I have a habit of falling on my ### alot :)

almost there.....

Oh Dean....

THanks for the tips. I think it would be fun and just something new. I always see Daisy Fuentes on tv for Windsor pilates but am never sure if it's worth it. I might try one class at the gym (but I''m also not prone to getting laughed at) and if I like it ... try it.

Stewart loves yoga and does it in Australia.

I had 3 bulged discs in the lumbar, and it saved me from surgery.

(that combined with a dvd called "back in shape") when i first started I could barely move.

I used the Mari Windsor dvd for the back...

I have this Pilates DVD and really like it but then again, I have nothing else to compare it to.. this is the only Pilates DVD I have..

I must say that our gym has great Pilates classes and if you work out every week, it really tones your body.

Good luck!

I do pilates as well. I have the Winsor pilates dvd. I try to do it at least 3 times a week. You really do see results within a few weeks and you feel stronger, your posture is better. I like because it's easy on your joints.
